Automotive Technology Gasoline Systems As the leading automotive supplier, Bosch believes that the internal-combustion engine will continue to be the dominant automotive powertrain over the next 20 years. In the Electric Vehicles and Hybrid Systems business unit, some 500 Bosch specialists are currently developing solutions both for hybrid applications and for purely electric driving. The SB LiMotive joint venture’s first major order was to supply lithium-ion battery cells for installation in BMW’s Megacity Vehicle. The company was established by Bosch and Samsung SDI in 2008, and currently employs some 500 associates. Diesel Systems In modern diesel engines, Bosch diesel injection systems make a significant contribution to reducing fuel consumption as well as CO emissions. The CP4 common-rail pump, for example, 2 builds up pressure especially fast, and so is suitable for economical start-stop operation. With solutions like this, diesel consumption can be further reduced by some 30 percent over the next few years. Chassis Systems Bosch further expanded its international ABS manufacturing network in 2009: It was the first automotive supplier to open an ABS manufacturing facility in India – at its Chakan (Pune) location. Up to now, the company has manufactured more than 200 million brake control systems at eight sites worldwide.
