MARINE CORPS UNIFORM REGULATIONS<br />

(1) Navy officers and warrant officers will wear appropriate Navy<br />

grade insignia on each shoulder strap in the manner prescribed in<br />

subparagraph 4005.3. Marine Corps branch of service insignia will be worn in<br />

the eyelets provided with the wing tips parallel to the bottom edge of the<br />

coat.<br />

(2) Navy grade insignia and service stripes for Marine Corps service<br />

<strong>uniform</strong>s consist of blue markings on a green background. Grade insignia is<br />

worn on the left sleeve in the same general manner as on Navy <strong>uniform</strong>s.<br />

Service stripes will be worn centered on the outer half of the left sleeve<br />

sloping toward the front at an angle of 45 degrees. The bottom stripe will<br />

be about 1/2 inch above the point of the cuff. Marine Corps branch of<br />

service insignia will be worn on the service coats as prescribed in paragraph<br />

4001.<br />

c. Khaki Shirts (Long and Short Sleeve) and Utility Coat<br />

(1) Navy Officers. Navy collar grade insignia will be worn on khaki<br />

shirts and utility coats as prescribed in paragraph 4005. Staff <strong>corps</strong> and<br />

warrant officers (except for Christian chaplains) will wear their gold staff<br />

<strong>corps</strong> device on the left collar in lieu of the grade insignia, in the same<br />

general manner as prescribed in subparagraph 4006.6. Christian chaplains<br />

will wear the staff <strong>corps</strong> device centered vertically on the left collar with<br />

the center of the device on a line bisecting the angle of the point of the<br />

collar, as illustrated in figure 8-1.<br />

(2) Chief Petty Officers. Chief petty officers will wear Navy 5/8<br />

inch by one inch black metal insignia of grade on each collar point of the<br />

khaki long sleeve shirt in the same manner as the officers’ insignia show in<br />

figure 8-1, and on the khaki short sleeve shirt coat as illustrated in figure<br />

8-2. The black metal 1-1/4 inch device of the size worn with the garrison<br />

cap will be worn on each collar point of the utility <strong>uniform</strong>, in the same<br />

manner as worn on the short sleeve khaki shirt.<br />

(3) Personnel Below the Grade of Chief Petty Officer<br />

(a) Khaki Shirts. Navy insignia of grade consists of blue<br />

markings on a khaki background and is worn on the left sleeve in the same<br />

general manner as on the Navy <strong>uniform</strong> shirts. When the green service sweater<br />

is worn, Navy black metal grade insignia is worn on the right collar and the<br />

appropriate branch of service insignia (specialty device) is worn on the left<br />

collar of the khaki shirt in the same manner as on the utility coat. Navy<br />

enlisted who do not rate a specialty device, as described below, will wear<br />

black grade insignia on both collar points.<br />

(b) Utility Coat. For first class petty officers and below, the<br />

black insignia of grade is worn on the right collar point in the same general<br />

manner as prescribed in figure 8-2. The rating insignia (i.e., HM, DT, RP)<br />

will be worn on the left collar point as illustrated in figure 8-2.<br />

d. Field Coat and AWC<br />

(1) Navy Officers and Warrant Officers. Navy insignia of grade is<br />

worn in accordance with subparagraph 4005.3.
