b. A 1-inch square red patch will be worn on the utility cap, above the<br />

visor, centered on the sweatband.<br />

c. A 1-inch square red patch will be worn centered, approximately 1 inch<br />

above the front helmet cover seam, with the emblem decal placed directly<br />

above the patch. The patch will also be worn centered, two inches from the<br />

bottom, on the back of the helmet cover.<br />

7017. SWORD MOURNING KNOT<br />

1. The mourning knot will be worn when NCOs are detailed to military<br />

funerals when the sword is prescribed. The knot is formed by doubling the<br />

band, passing free ends around the guard at the pommel, back through the<br />

bight thus formed and drawn taut.<br />

2. The mourning knot is a black ribbon of silk or other similar material, 3<br />

inches wide and 27 inches long, each end finished with a small hem, the two<br />

flowing ends being 12 inches long when the band is knotted upon the sword<br />

hilt.<br />

7018. SWORD AND SCABBARD, NCO<br />

1. The NCO sword and scabbard may be prescribed for corporals or above when<br />

the blue dress, blue-white dress, or service <strong>uniform</strong>s are worn.<br />

2. The sword may be prescribed for drill with troops and for parades,<br />

reviews and ceremonies.<br />

3. The sword scabbard is of black leather and fitted with highly polished<br />

brass mountings.<br />

4. The sword will be suspended from the dress white or service belt by means<br />

of the leather sword/scabbard carrier. The carrier will be provided to NCOs<br />

whenever required to wear the sword.<br />

7019. TRO<strong>US</strong>ERS OR SKIRT/SLACKS, WHITE<br />

1. Units that prescribe the wear of the blue-white dress <strong>uniform</strong>s for<br />

ceremonial wear will procure white trousers, skirts, and slacks for enlisted<br />

Marines and white slacks for female officers from commercial sources per<br />

subparagraph 2005.1. Marine Barracks, Washington D.C., may also procure<br />

white trousers and skirts for officers as required.<br />

2. These items will be maintained as organizational property using the local<br />

commander's operation and maintenance funds.<br />

7020. ORGANIZATIONAL CLOTHING FOR SELECTED ENLISTED MARINES<br />

7020<br />

1. All clothing issued under these organizational allowances will be<br />

adequately marked to provide positive identification separate from<br />

individually owned clothing. No article will be altered for an individual to<br />

the extent that it can not be re-altered for issue to another individual.<br />
