AREVA, the world’s largest companycomprising the entire nuclear fuel cycle,announced that it would relocate its NorthAmerican headquarters to Charlotte in2013. Though the company has had apresence in Charlotte since 2002, therelocation will bring an additional 130jobs over the next four years. AREVAcurrently employs 630 people in Charlotte.SPX Corporation announced in 2010that it was expanding its Charlotteheadquarters, adding 180 jobs. TheFortune 500 provider of engineeredproducts and technologies employs 350people in Charlotte. Also in 2010, Fortune1000 company Babcock & Wilcox movedits headquarters to Charlotte. Employingmore than 150 people in Charlotte, thecompany designs, supplies and servicespower generation systems and equipment.Other significant energy companies includeSaertex USA, a major producer of fabricsused for wind turbines; Celgard, oneof the largest suppliers to the lithiumbattery industry; and Piedmont NaturalGas, a natural gas provider serving NorthCarolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.Health CareMore than 100,000 people work in healthcare in the Charlotte region, and theindustry continues to grow. In the Charlotte area,Novant Health also manages outpatientsurgery centers, urgent care locations,senior health care and medical plazas.Health care consulting companies alsomake up a significant part of the industry.The largest health care alliance in thecountry, Premier Inc., moved its corporateheadquarters to Charlotte in 2009 andnow employs 900 people in the area.An industry leader, Premier is an allianceof 2,800 U.S. community hospitals and95,000 alternate sites focused on improvingthe health of communities.
