John Wesley learnt German so that hecould speak to the 26 moravians among the passengers.During the voyage John taught the Germans English. Hecould himself already speak Latin, French and Italian. OnSaturday the 18 th of October 1735 he baptized, AmbrosiusTackner, a 30- year old man, who had only been baptizedby a layman.
