Lathouder, Kapteijn and Moulijn 43mixing 100 ml of a 10 g/l chitosan solution with 4.1 ml of 25% glutaraldehyde inwater. Monoliths were dipped for 1 min and cleaned with pressurized nitrogen. Afterdrying for 90 min, the gel was rehydrated and washed with water. Enzymes wereadsorbed from a 3 g/l solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffer pH7 at 293 K. Enzymeconcentration in solution was followed by UV-VIS.Catalytic tests were performed in a glass vessel equipped with a stirrer motor.Two monoliths (diameter 4.3 cm, length 4 cm) were mounted in plane on the stirreraxis. The total reaction volume was 2.5 l. Lipase was assayed in the acylation ofvinyl acetate with butanol in toluene. Initial reaction rate was followed by GCanalysis. Immobilized trypsin was used in the hydrolysis of N-benzoyl-l-arginineethyl ester (BAEE) in a 0.01 M phosphate buffer pH 8 at 308 K.
