A major advantage of the canopy temperature techniques is the possibility of acquiring thermalimages that represent complete orchards from aerial vehicles or satellites. This allows an entirefield to be characterized rather than monitoring only a few points or trees, as is now the case withsoil and plant-based techniques. Additionally, analysing the tree-to-tree variability of remotelysensed canopy temperature data may produce other indicators of orchard water needs.
