This is occurring every Sunday and during special events. PLEASE refrain from parkingon their PRIVATE PROPERTY, your car may be towed and it is very costly to have your car released (severalhundred dollars!).We want to be good neighbors, so instead, we encourage you park at the school and walk over - there aremany spaces available and it’s really quite convenient. Thank you for your cooperation!

Third Sunday of Easter Page 7For the Ride HomeThird Sunday of EasterMay 8, 2011Scripture• God raised this Jesus; of this we are all witnesses. (Acts 2:32)• You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in your presence,(Psalm 16:11)• realizing that you were ransomed from your futile conduct … so thatyour faith and hope are in God. (1 Peter 1:18,21)• Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the wayand opened the Scriptures to us. (Luke 24:32)Reflection• How does the Jesus rising change the disciples traveling to Emmaus?• What grace from Christ’s rising has changed your direction?• What would you do to take your life closer to God through encounteringthe risen Christ? Many men in the past have been loved with extreme intensity –Socrates by his disciples, Julius Caesar by his legionnaires, Napoleon by hissoldiers. But today these men belong irrevocably to the past; not a heartbeats at their memory. There is no one who would give their life or eventheir possessions for them even though their ideals are still beingadvocated. And when their ideals are opposed, no one ever thinks ofcursing Socrates or Julius Caesar or Napoleon, because their personalitiesno longer have any influence; they are bygones. But not Jesus; Jesus is stillloved and still cursed; men still renounce their possessions and even theirlives both for love of him and out of hatred for him. No living being is asalive as Jesus.Ricciotti, Giuseppe, Christian Readings, edited by John E. Rotelle, Catholic BookPublishing; New York, 1973, p. 33.May is the month for Mother’s Day. It is also the month for ourBlessed Mother Mary. We encourage you to take some time to honoryour mother as Jesus honored his mother.Devotion to MaryThe people of God through the ages have shown Mary veneration andlove. They have called upon her in prayer and they imitate her. All theseways of praising Mary draw us closer to Christ. When Mary is honored, herSon is dully acknowledged, loved and glorified, and his commandments areobserved. To venerate Mary correctly means to acknowledge her Son, for sheis the Mother of God. To love her means to love Jesus, for she is always theMother of Jesus. To pray to Our Lady means not to substitute her for Christ, but toglorify her Son who desires us to have loving confidence in his saints, especially in his Mother.(Catholic Update, 1992 St. Anthony Messenger Press, 1615 Republic St., Cincinnati, OH 45210)Blessed Mary, mother of our divine Savior.I seek to emulate your loving kindness in every way. Please bless me and my children, and keep us always mindfulOf the great gifts motherhood can bring.Amen!EYES WIDE OPENOnly Saint Luke tells the story of twodisciples walking to Emmaus, and it isfull of puzzling gaps. While all the otherdisciples and Jesus’ mother were inJerusalem trying to understand theamazing fact of the Resurrection, whywere these two hurrying out of town?Only one is named—Cleopas. Who wasthe other? A friend, a brother, a cousinor, perhaps, Cleopas’ wife? The twowere going over the terrible events inJerusalem during the previous dayswhen they were joined by a strangerwho asked what they were talkingabout. He listened intently to theirstory, and then explained what hadhappened to Jesus in the larger contextof the Jewish scriptures. But these twowere too blinded by grief to realize whothe stranger was. When they reachedthe village it was late, so theypersuaded him to come into the house, which we may guess was either thiscouple’s home or a relative’s. Theculmination of the story occurs whenthey sit down for a meal and Jesusbreaks bread and gives thanks, at whichmoment “their eyes were opened” andthey knew their guest was the Lord(Luke 24:31). It was not just that theyopened their eyes, but they wereawakened to a whole new reality.Perhaps that is just the point. God’sgrace falls on us in the midst of dinneror as we hurry down the road, trying toget away. God’s grace falls on us smackdab in the everyday, ordinary moments,in the plain and simple struggles tounderstand, through conversations inthe checkout line, at the bedside of asick relative, during phone calls anddriving the car to pick up or deposit thekids. The Emmaus story says that Godis alive, right now, in every moment.Wake up and see!Copyright © 2010, World Library Publications. Allrights reserved.

© Copyright, J. S.
