The business unit “Microsystems and Portable Power supply” is working on the material development of inorganic-organic hybrid polymers (ORMOCER®s), glasses and ceramics for dielectric and optical packaging and diffractive and refractive optical elements and systems. Its output also includes the respective microtechnology up to the demonstrator scale together with basic layer characterization. Competence in this field is complemented by passivation and encapsulation materials for electronic and optical components and systems and by the development of ORMOCER®-based membranes, separators, films and binders for polymer batteries and fuel cells. Customers of this business unit are from information technology/telecommunications (e.g.integrated diffractive and refractive optics, o/e MCM-L /D, packaging), the automotive, aviation and aerospace electronics industry as well as mechanical engineering (e.g. microoptics, sensor technology, packaging), mobile information and data communication and the respective power supply (e.g. MCM-L /D, microbattery, mini fuel cell, smart card, packaging), electrical engineering, power electronics and microelectronics (e.g. PCB technology, substrates, polymer electronics, passivation/packaging), microsystems technology, security engineering and sensor technology (microsystems, array analysis, MOEMs, packaging).
