The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME) has 5 000 students and 400 people in the teaching staff. I am a head of the Department of Materials Micromechanics and Applied Acoustics at the Institute of Engineering Physics FME. There are three research groups - fatigue and fracture of materials, ab initio modeling mechanical and magnetic properties of crystals and acoustic methods in materials research and civil engineering. 1. Profile: Expertise: Analysis of microstructure and mechanical properties of ultra-fine- and nano-grained materials DESCRIPTION: Advanced methods for three-dimensional analysis of microstructures and surfaces, multilevel indentation testing and analysis (nano, macro, macro), vibrational testing of mechanical properties (elastic, internal friction, fatigue) of small specimens in the temperature range of (-120, +150) oC, mezoscopic and atomistic models for physical interpretation of fatigue and fracture characteristics, INNOVATIVE ASPECTS: unique experimental and theoretical methods recently published in highly impacted scientific journals. MAIN ADVANTADGES / BENEFITS: 3D reconstruction of materials microstructure from 2D materialographical samples using methodology based on a wide set of computer-aided 3D tesselations. Coupling of multilevel indentation, surface roughness analysis and vibrational testing to establish new relationships between microstructure and mechanical properties. PhD students available for performing measurements and evaluation of data. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: A special device for advanced materials testing equipped by the Brüel&Kjær MM 0002 electromagnetic vibration generator and sensor, the climatic chamber and the multi-analyzer PULSE associated with computer program codes for Fourier analysis and data evaluation through the interface RS23. Optical profilometer MicroProf FRT, Fries Research & Technology GmbH, for a three-dimensional reconstruction of the surface micromorphology and precise measurements of surface roughness parameters. Standard and high-resolution scanning and transmision electron microscopy. CURRENT STAGE OF DEVELOPMEN Ready for measurements and analyses.
