Describe the technical problem to be solved:<br />

The basic technical problem is that classical salt baths are not used in heat treatment today because of harmfull<br />

effects. For austempering of samples we used Smitweld technique, which has programmable block and gives<br />

opportunity to use various values of parameters for thermal cycles. If the process of austempering is modelled we<br />

can produce desirable micro- or nanostructures.<br />

Inovative aspects for production of Austempered Ductile Irons are: use of new casting methods-cost effective;<br />

Controling the phase transformation kinetics during austempering and get desired structures, structure and<br />

dimension stability of austempered components.<br />

What are the advantages of the technology in comparison to products / processes that are already on the<br />

market?<br />

The Austempering is an isothermal process and it offers advantages versus Quench and Tempering. Since the<br />

formation of ausferrite occurs over minutes or hours at a single temperature, distortion is minimized and cracking<br />

does not occur.<br />

Austempered Ductile irons provide: lower cost, redused sound in work,better strength-to-weight ratio, better<br />

machinability, replace steel forgings, castings and welds and aluminium in some cases.<br />

The partner could receive high quality castings from ductile irons and austempering technology for desired<br />

Finalised Phases: Established methods for kinetics control (TTT & CCT diagrams can be design for each<br />

chemical content of ductile iron.); Mechanical properties are tested for austempered samples and plant sertificat<br />

was created; The effect of austenitization has been investigated on degree of incompleteness of bainite reaction.<br />
