Short description of company
In the Space Research Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, under the leadership of prof. Dr. Stavri
Stavrev, during the last 15 years methods for the synthesis of cubic carbon and boron nanostructures have been
developed and patented. We have developed technologies for the alteration and modification of the surface
layers of UDDP and deposition of diverse coatings on UDDP particles. By doing this the range of physical,
chemical, and structural properties of UDDP is considerably widened, respectively widening the potential fields of
application. The obtained scientific results have been the base for the successful participation of SRI-BAS in EC’s
FP6 networks and projects (NAVOBS, I-STONE, X-GEAR, etc.).
1. Profile: RTD: liquids for fine and ultra-fine polishing of metals, optics, semiconductors
DESCRIPTION:We have developed liquids and pastes for fine and ultra-fine polishing (roughness less than 10
nm) of metals, optics, and semiconductors. For this purpose UDDP with a specific density less than 2.7 g/cm3 is
synthesized. Methods for the preparation of highly stable ultra-fine suspensions of UDDP in pure water (with shelf
life more than a year) are successfully developed.
INNOVATIVE ASPECTS:the use of nanodiamonds
MAIN ADVANTADGES / BENEFITS:Ultrafine polishing with nanodiamonds
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:We have produced polishing liquids with nanodiamonds after modifying the
diamond surface. Used nanodiamonds are with reduced picnometric density.
CURRENT STAGE OF DEVELOPMENWe have developed liquids for fine and ultra-fine polishing (roughness
less than 10 nm) of metals, optics, and semiconductors.
