Interdisciplinary solutions for tribological tasks are provided through the availability of scientists with knowledge in physics, material sciences, chemistry, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering/electronics. The members of the FUN group are especially dealing with characterisation of surfaces, contact mechanics/contact stresses, types of friction, influences of materials selection on friction, wear, and lubrication, types of materials, materials structure and composition(related to metals, polymers, and ceramics), and tribological damage analysis. The LUB groups work is mainly focused on lubricant (oils and greases), lubrication conditions, components of lubricants, specific lubricant sensors and condition monitoring. In the SYS group major topics are experimental analysis of tribosystems, development of methods for determination/measurement of friction and wear, modelling of friction and wear processes and mathematical simulation.
