A unique capability is the X-ray interference lithography (XIL) setup at the Swiss Light Source (SLS). Here we can
expose periodic nanopatterns into polymers with feature sizes down to 15 nm.
Injection-moulding, extrusion and other polymer processing capabilities are available at the FHNW and the KATZ.
All this is completed by a vast variety of modern analytical equipment such as scanning electron microscopes,
several atomic force microscopes, optical characterisation tools etc.
Research and Technology
- Production of the micro- and nanostructures via lithography, electron-beam, X-ray, but also via laserengraving,
HSC
– Polymer samples with surface-nanopatterns of various geometry by hot-embossing
- Construction and production of tools
– Samples and prototype-series by injection moulding
- testing of the samples via REM, AFM, wetting angle, inclination angles…
– Clarification of the influence of polymer material
– Identification of the optimum structural geometries
– Development of most suitable approaches to tool manufacturing
INKA offers an unique combination between the production of micro- and nanostructures down to 15 nm and the
production of polymer-parts with structured surfaces by hot embossing or injection molding.
INNOVATIVE ASPECTS:
MAIN ADVANTADGES / BENEFITS:
Micro- and nanostructuring AND polymer processing from one hand.
INKA provides full support from the idea via prototyping to series-production and closes so the gap between
research and market.
TYPE OF COLLABORATION SOUGH
Industrial projects, EU-projects
PARTNER PROFILE:
Companies or institutes that want to bring products on the market with controlled surface structures.
Companies or institutes that are interested in setting up EU-projects in the field of micro- and nanostructuring of
polymer parts with structured surfaces.
2. Profile: RTD: Functionalisation of polymer surfaces via controlled surface structures
DESCRIPTION:
Polymers with nano-fillers are increasingly in demand. Ensuring product effectiveness requires detailed
knowledge of the relationships between the additive processing and the properties of the substrate polymers.
INKA offers the complete chain from nano-additives to product and characterising of properties:
• Nanocomposite powders are incorporated into various polymers via compounding
• Masterbatch concentrates are used for injection molded parts
• Properties and performance of the polymer composites are measured and optimized
• The influence of the additive on the polymer composite properties is examined
Nano-additives used: Organoclays, carbon-nano-tubes, nano-metals.
