LandXML is fast becoming astandard for data file exchange for surveyand civil engineering design work. Here aresome of the highlights:For the surveyor…. Field-to-Finish includesnew field code options to auto-createbuilding sides by taped measurement andto close multi-sided buildings by projectingthe first and last sides.“R” Code for Multi-Side Close - Survey fromone side“JOG” Code for Adding SidesEdit-Process Raw File now includes full 3DLeast Squares and assists your editing bydisplaying a graphics window to showpoints and traverse lines in real-time. Asyou change an angle or distance on a particulartraverse leg, for example, the entiretraverse representation changes graphically.Avoid Crossing Contours: Triangulate &Contour has been enhanced to preventcrossing contours even at the highest degreeof smoothing.Edit Process RAW File now has Text/Graphic Window for Real-Time Graphic Reaction to EditChangesQuick Closure: Enter your traverse by pointnumber sequence and obtain closure.CutSheets Made Easier: Manyimprovements to cutsheets, includingability to specify a distancetolerance and survey fieldpoints at random and obtain automaticcut/fill results on pointsthat fall within distance toleranceof design point list. The cutsheetreport is fully configurable.New Point Snap! You can alwayssnap to a node, but nowyou can move your cursor acrossa busy area of points and seewhich point number is nearest. When you have the one youwant, just pick and it automaticallysnaps to the node of thepoint.Point Snap in ActionCarlson Update Newsletter Page 2Spring 2002

2 New Mining ModulesThe new E-Logger Module createsSurvCADD Drillholes, both graphically andin the database, by assigning strata namesto user-defined ranges of gamma and density. In one sweep, entire sets of drillholesare captured from E-Logs.TIN File raised to New Elevation within Inclusion/Exclusion Perimeters. Note Vertical Sides (notpossible with Grids).SurvCADD XML Features continuedC&G and Simplicity File Linkage: Optionsadded convert all standard C&G and Simplicityfile formats to SurvCADD formats. For the engineer… TIN File Utilities enablesmath operations like addition and subtractionof elevations within defined perimeters, much like Grid File Utilities.3D Street Intersections and Cul-De-Sacs:Designs your subdivision streets fully in 3D.Quick Profile, Quick Section: Just pick 2points and derive and plot a profile or sectionin one step. By using a preview screen, plotting of the profile or sections is optional.in the Define Materials list.Material Quantities by Select: Reports linear, area and volume quantities. For eachselected polyline, you are prompted to selectthe corresponding material definitionfrom the Define Materials list.Surface Inspector: Study grid and TIN elevationsin real-time.Volumes by Triangulation has been re-writtento calculate TIN-to-TIN volumes by preciseprism analysis, within any perimeter, insteadof sectional analysis. The new Blasting Module designs the blasthole layout and decking and timing betweendecks, holes and rows with user-defined explosives. The end result is a report on theblast useful for state documentation requirements.Import Haested Network: imports Haestedsewer network into SurvCADD format.Superelevation Enhancement: In DesignTemplate, new option allows for pivoting intosuperelevation from the low edge instead ofthe centerline. For the construction estimator: Define Materialscreates list of material types such aspiping, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, etc. andassigns layers, depths and user-defined attributes.Useful for take-off work directlyfrom plans.Material Quantities by Layer: Calculateslinear, area and volume quantities from theselected polylines by looking up their layersCarlson Update Newsletter Page 3Spring 2002

Evelyn joined Carlson Software in 1987, and served as secretary, receptionist, officemanager and bookkeeper. In her role as receptionist, she was the “voice” of CarlsonSoftware. Over the years, she made many friends among our clients, dealers and partners. She took great pleasure in our successes, and always looked out for the best interests ofour company—which is to say, placing the client’s interests first. She “ran a tight ship” and kept us all in line. She expected hard work and sacrifice fromthose around her, believing strongly in a good old-fashioned work ethic. But she was alsothat rare individual who touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Evelyn, we are all thebetter to have known you. The staff of Carlson Software offer this tribute to you, that wewill dedicate ourselves all the more to the challenge of providing the highest quality softwareand service to our marketplace—and we will never forget you.Carlson Update Newsletter Page 5Spring 2002
