Kentucky-Tennessee NewsErik Carter was ordainedto the Gospel ministryon May 5, in his homechurch of Middletown, Ky.Erik Carter was bornin Loma Linda, Calif. Hespent a good part of hisearly childhood in Ohioand Indiana before movingback to California,where he graduated fromNewbury Park AdventistAcademy.Carter spent two yearsin Norway, the home countryof his mother, Birgitt,studying youth evangelismat Matteson-skolenin Mysen, and Norwegianculture and language inOslo. The following yearhe enrolled in theologicalMable Mooreand Mabel Samsare using theirskills to blesschildren in needof love. A yearand-a-halfago,the Portland,Tenn., churchstarted the “Bagsof Love” programwhich providesa duffle bag containinga blanket,toys, games, andpersonal careitems for childrenremoved from homes whenparents are arrested for druguse.Mable Moore is 95years old. She has knitmany blankets and small afghansto put in the bags forthe children. Mabel Sams,also 95, has sewn duffleErik Carter Ordained to MinistryHarmony and Erik Carterbags and has tied manyfleece throws for the children.The idea of the “Bagsof Love” program is to letthe children know thatsomeone cares about themwhen they are taken fromtheir homes and placed in astrange environment.The Portland “Bags ofstudies at Newbold Collegein England.Returning to the UnitedStates, Carter continuedstudying at Southern AdventistUniversity,graduating in 2000with a bachelor ofarts degree in theology.Two years later,he graduated witha master of arts inreligion from AndrewsUniversity TheologicalSeminary. Currently,he is pursuing graduatestudies in pastoralcare and counseling.Carter marriedHarmony Kubik inBentonsport, Iowa,on May 20, 2001. Sheis studying medicineat the University of LouisvilleSchool of Medicine inKentucky.In January, 2003, Carterbegan an internship at theLouisville First church.
