юбилейChevron Celebrates 20 Yearsof Successful Partnership withKazakhstan— At events in Astana with President Nazarbayev, PrimeMinister Akhmetov, key government officials, employees andother stakeholders, Chevron celebrated 20 years of successfulpartnership with the Republic of Kazakhstan and announced anew social investment commitment.“Chevron is proud to have played a supporting role in therise of Kazakhstan to global prominence,” said Chevron Chairmanand CEO John Watson. “Our collective success is a tributeto our strong partnership with the people and leadership ofKazakhstan, the national oil and gas company, KazMunaiGas,and our international oil company partners. Together, we havedelivered impressive results in safety, production and revenue,and in the process, created thousands of jobs, trained the localworkforce, established a supplier base, and actively invested inthe development of the local communities.”Extending Chevron’s commitment to the community, Watsonannounced a new social investment initiative to build a “Palaceof Youth” (Youth Center) in the city of Atyrau, offering youngpeople of the region educational, professional and vocationaldevelopment along with social, community wellness and recreationalopportunities.“We have every reason to believe that we can continuebuilding on the incredible success we’ve achieved,” Watsonsaid. “We especially appreciate the trust and support of PresidentNazarbayev, our employees and partners, and the peopleof Kazakhstan. We look forward to continuing our friendshipand effective partnership with Kazakhstan for many more decades.”On this visit to Kazakhstan, that included participation inevents in Atyrau, Watson was accompanied by former ChevronChairman and CEO Kenneth Derr (1989-1999) who, along withPresident Nazarbayev, signed the historic Tengizchevroil (TCO)agreement on April 6, 1993, launching Chevron’s historic entryinto the country.Derr said, “Tengiz was the first significant internationalenergy investment in the former Soviet Union. It was key toencouraging additional investment in Kazakhstan and helpedachieve today’s energy security and economic prosperity —and strengthened Kazakhstan’s economic and political standingin the world.”Chevron’s Eurasia headquarters is in Almaty, Kazakhstanwhere it manages its interests in three major energy projects,Tengizchevroil (50 percent), Karachaganak (18 percent) andthe Caspian Pipeline Consortium (15 percent), connecting theTengiz and Karachaganak fields with the Russian Black Sea portof Novorossiysk. Chevron also operates its polyethylene pipeplant in Atyrau (100 percent) and is evaluating the potential ofrenewable wind energy in Kazakhstan.90№2 (<strong>57</strong>), 2013
