This year the prestigious awards weregiven to Alpha Tau Omega, Phi Mu, Alpha Phi Alpha and Delta Sigma <strong>The</strong>ta. Con<strong>gr</strong>atulationsto the organizations that won the Deans Cup award!Greek Week Winners <strong>The</strong> Dr. Jack Hawkins award is given to the fraternity man with the highest overallGPA, the recipient this year is Andy Flowers from Sigma Chi Fraternity. <strong>The</strong> Doug Hawkins Award is given to the fraternity new member class with thehighest overall GPA for the fall semester, this year the award was given to Farm-House Fraternity. <strong>The</strong> Dr. Ralph Wyatt Adams Award is in recognition of the Executive Councilwith the highest overall GPA for the spring and fall semester, this year FarmHouseFraternity was the recipient. <strong>The</strong> sorority with the Executive Council having the highest overall GPA for thespring and fall semesters is Chi Omega. Chi Omega also had the overall highestnew member class GPA.“I know in myheart that man isgood. That what isright will alwayseventually triumph.And there'spurpose and worthto each and everylife.” - RonaldRegan ( <strong>The</strong> Dr. Don Gibson award is given to the IFC fraternity exhibiting the <strong>gr</strong>eatestscholastic improvement from spring to fall semester, this year this award was givento Sigma Chi Fraternity. <strong>The</strong> NPC sorority exhibiting the highest scholastic improvement from spring to fallsemester was given to Alpha Gamma Delta. <strong>The</strong> NPHC fraternity exhibiting the highest scholastic improvement from spring tofall semester this year is Kappa Alpha Psi. <strong>The</strong> NPHC sorority exhibiting the <strong>gr</strong>eatest scholastic improvement from spring tofall semester this year is Alpha Kappa Alpha.Greek Man and Woman of the YearMr. Greek and Ms. Greek are awards given to the two people who have been mostinstrumental in the success of Greek life at <strong>Troy</strong> <strong>University</strong>. <strong>The</strong>se honorable recipientswere named Sunday night at the annual Order of Omega banquet. This year’swinners are Kyle Crabtree from Alpha Tau Omega and Kash Forrester from Phi Mu.Page 2

This year attendanceexceeded over 600 people over the three day span. All proceeds to theevent went to support the Jimmy V Foundation. <strong>The</strong> winner of this year’s Luaucompetition was the ladies of Alpha Delta Pi. Delta Chi would like to thank everyonewho came out and supported this <strong>gr</strong>eat event!KAPPA DELTA SHAMROCKKappa Delta had their annual Spring Shamrock 5k and 1 mile FunRun on March 3,benefitting Prevent Child Abuse America. In all, $16,078.05 was raised for thecause! Kappa Delta is able to keep part of the donations within <strong>Troy</strong> benefitting thePike County Regional Child Advocacy Center.PI KAPPA PHI PUSH AMERICAMarch 22 was the beginning of a <strong>gr</strong>eat week for the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi. <strong>The</strong>yheld their annual PUSH week. <strong>The</strong> events held throughout the week include a pageant,empathy tee ball tournament and penny wars. <strong>The</strong> brothers are proud to announcethat they raised $5,000 and look forward to an even more successful PUSHweek next year.PHI MU GRANDSLAMPhi Mu sisters at the GrandSlamThis week Phi Mu hosted their largest philanthropic event yet this year, GrandSlam. Grand Slam is Phi Mu’s annual softball tournament where teams from allacross campus and town come together and play softball games to support the Children'sMiracle Network. A new aspect of the tournament this year was the additionof a home run derby. It was a <strong>gr</strong>eat day full of philanthropy and fun, and the sistersof Phi Mu with the help of all the participants and spectators were able to raise a lotof money for a <strong>gr</strong>eat cause.Page 3


THE GRK GAZETTEPHILANTHROPHIES Of MARCHALPHA TAU OMEGA WALK HARDAlpha Tau Omega brothers inPanama City.WalkHard is a 125 mile walk from <strong>Troy</strong>, AL to Panama City, FL that benefitsCamp Seale Harris, which is a camp for children with juvenile diabetes. <strong>The</strong> walkersthis year were: Matt Dobson, Goodwin Scott, Rick Dahrens and Joey Carter.<strong>The</strong>y successfully completed the six day trek and raised approximately $2200 forthe fight against juvenile diabetes.SPECIAL EVENTS OF MARCHKAPPA DELTA GIRL SCOUT CELEBRATIONKappa Delta sisters with theGirl Scouts.Kappa Delta helped celebrate with the Girl Scouts their 100 th birthday with a birthdaycelebration at the KD house on March 23! <strong>The</strong> girls went through decades ofgirl scout history, played team building games where you had to rely on others towin the game such as the human knot and 3 legged race. <strong>The</strong>y ended the celebrationby eating birthday cake and having party favors.ALPHA GAMMA DELTA ZUMBA<strong>The</strong> Ladies of Alpha Gamma Delta held a Zumba night on March 8th thatbenefited their philanthropy for Juvenile Diabetes and Research.Delta Chi Parents DayDelta Chi put on its first annual Parents Day on Saturday March 31st. It was a <strong>gr</strong>eatsuccess allowing parents of the brothers to get a chance to fellowship with one anotherand meet all the brothers. <strong>The</strong> brothers look forward to next year when theywill have the special weekend again.Page 4
