The recipients this year include twodedicated educators here at El Carmelo: 4 th grade teacher JaneenSwan and Principal Lupe Garcia.One of Mrs. Swan’s students nominated her for the Sweetheartaward, and wrote the following testimonial: “Mrs. Swan makeslearning fun. I like the way she teaches because she is veryunderstanding and encouraging. With our Mission reports, shehelped us learn to be organized. She taught me how to takegood notes for a big report… I just really want to thank Mrs. Swan for all the work shehas done to help me and all my classmates.”Mr. Garcia was commended for his “rare ability to make each person, young and not-soyoung,his highest priority. He is a leader who is always encouraging new ideas andprojects that put kids first. One might take Mr. Garcia’s commitment and dedication forgranted, but day-by-day and year-by-year, his encouragement and support make such apositive difference to the individuals and the community. He knows how to get thingsdone in an effective way that will work with everyone.
