Over the past 20 years, the <strong>Groupama</strong> <strong>Gan</strong> Foundation has becomeone of the key private partners of the French cinema industry.It is active on two fronts, that of guardian of the world’s cinematographicheritage and promoter of the development of contemporarycinema in the areas of production, distribution, and exhibition.Thanks to the quality of its choices and the <strong>for</strong>ms of support itoffers, the Foundation’s patronage has become indispensab<strong>le</strong> particularlygiven the very poor condition of numerous masterpiecesfrom the past as well as the present difficulties encountered in theproduction and distribution of feature <strong>le</strong>ngth films.CINEMA HERITAGEThe Foundation does its part to help preserve the world’s cinematographicheritage. It has contributed to the restoration of numerousmasterpieces, most recently The 400 Blows by FrançoisTruffaut in 2004; My Unc<strong>le</strong> by Jacques Tati in 2005; Verdun, visionsd’histoire by Léon Poirier in 2006; and Yoyo by Pierre Etaix in 2007.In addition, it participates in the making of duplicate or accesscopies of original films, including Shock Troops by CostaGavras (1967) in 2007 and The War is Over by Alain Resnais (1965) in2008. It also organizes special screenings of these films in Franceand abroad (si<strong>le</strong>nt films with musical accompaniment, etc.).


FESTIVALSThe Foundation also has a keen interest in cinema-goers, and isactively engaged in accompanying film audiences in theirdiscovery of an extremely diverse range of films.
