APPENDIX I• The cities of Kyle, Lockhart, <strong>and</strong> Luling will evaluate costs <strong>and</strong> feasibility in aneffort to implement phosphorous removal techniques for all effluent enteringPlum Creek.Waste<strong>water</strong> Infrastructure• Cities will continue or initiate daily inspections of lift stations <strong>and</strong> equip allstations with dialers <strong>and</strong>/or Supervisory Control <strong>and</strong> Data Acquisition (SCADA)systems.• Cities will continue to apply for grants to replace old clay pipe sewer lines, <strong>and</strong>clean <strong>and</strong> maintain existing sewer lines.• Cities will work to locate any septic systems that may still be within the citylimits <strong>and</strong> connect those residences to central waste<strong>water</strong> treatment.Cropl<strong>and</strong> Operations Management MeasuresTo focus management plan development <strong>and</strong> implementation, management measures,addressing bacteria <strong>and</strong> nutrient issues will be encouraged <strong>and</strong> given top priority. Basedon site-specific characteristics, plans should include one or more of the followingmanagement practices to reduce pollutant loads from agricultural l<strong>and</strong>s:• Prescribed Grazing: Manages the controlled harvest of vegetation with grazinganimals to improve or maintain the desired species composition <strong>and</strong> vigor of plantcommunities, which improves surface <strong>and</strong> subsurface <strong>water</strong> quality <strong>and</strong> quantity.• Riparian Herbaceous Buffers: Establishes an area of grasses, glasslike plants, <strong>and</strong>forbs along <strong>water</strong> courses to improve <strong>and</strong> protect <strong>water</strong> quality by reducingsediment <strong>and</strong> other pollutants in runoff as well as nutrients <strong>and</strong> chemicals inshallow ground<strong>water</strong>.• Grasses Waterways: Natural or constructed channel-shaped or graded <strong>and</strong>established with suitable vegetation to protect <strong>and</strong> improve <strong>water</strong> quality.• Riparian Forest Buffers: Establishes area dominated by trees <strong>and</strong> shrubs locatedadjacent to <strong>and</strong> up-gradient from <strong>water</strong>courses to reduce excess amounts ofsediment, organic material, nutrients, <strong>and</strong> pesticides in surface runoff <strong>and</strong> excessnutrients <strong>and</strong> other chemicals in shallow ground<strong>water</strong> flow.• Watering Facilities: Places a device (tank, trough, or other <strong>water</strong>tight container)that provides animal access to <strong>water</strong> <strong>and</strong> protects streams, ponds, <strong>and</strong> <strong>water</strong>supplies from contamination through alternative access to <strong>water</strong>.• Field Borders: Establishes a strip of permanent vegetation at the edge or aroundthe perimeter of a field to protect soil <strong>and</strong> <strong>water</strong> quality.
