APPENDIX HWATER CONSERVATION MEASURESIntroductionWater conservation will provide benefits not only to customers in cost but to society bypreserving the environment <strong>and</strong> our resources by reducing dem<strong>and</strong>s on <strong>water</strong> <strong>and</strong>waste<strong>water</strong> systems. The objective of the Caldwell County Conservation Plan will be toprovide on brief overview of current measures undertaken by <strong>water</strong> utilities <strong>and</strong> topromote <strong>and</strong> implement <strong>water</strong> conservation.Water conservation has been identified by Region L as a measure to meet future <strong>water</strong>dem<strong>and</strong>s. As growth occurs <strong>and</strong> new developments flourish, it will be helpful to considerhaving a list of action items to be implemented to accommodate the increase in customerswithout a substantial increase in <strong>water</strong> dem<strong>and</strong>s.Water Supply System Conservation MeasuresThe <strong>water</strong> supply systems that currently serve Caldwell County responded in a survey ashaving implemented the following measures to encourage <strong>water</strong> conservation:Increasing <strong>water</strong> ratesProhibit l<strong>and</strong>scaping between the hours of 10 am to 8 pmBiannual newsletters with conservation tipsIncreasing rate blocksInstall accurate metering devicesUniversal meteringMeter testing <strong>and</strong> replacement programsRecord management systemWater auditsPublic EducationNon-promotional <strong>water</strong> ratesLeak detection <strong>and</strong> replacement
