InstallationModel N252 sprinklers are to be installed as shown.Model FP escutcheons, illustrated herewith, are the onlyrecessed escutcheons to be used with Model N252 ECRecessed Pendent Sprinklers. Use of any other recessedescutcheon will void all approvals and warranties. Whenhandling sprinklers, hold sprinklers only on frame armsand do not apply any force on the link assembly. For installingModel N252 EC pendent and recessed pendentsprinklers use only the Model N wrench (ref. Fig. 3). Useof wrenches other than that specified may damage thesesprinklers. Sprinklers should be tightened between 22 to30 ft. - lbs. (29,8 - 40,7 Nm) torque. Sprinklers not tightenedto recommended torque may cause leakage or impairmentof the sprinklers. Damaged sprinklers must bereplaced immediately.Fig. 1Model N252 EC PendentFig. 2Model N252 Recessed EC Pendent/ FPLink AssemblyFrame ArmModel N wrenchFig. 3Model N Wrench2.

Given that theModel N252 EC sprinklers are specifically listedfor noncombustible obstructed construction, theymay be installed within trusses or bar joists havingnoncombustible web members greater than1 inch (25.4 mm) when applying the “Four TimesRule” as defined in NFPA 13 under “Obstructionsto Sprinkler Discharge Pattern Development.”• Maximum area of coverage per sprinklers is 196ft 2 (18.2 m 2 ); minimum area of coverage is 100 ft 2(9.3 m 2 ). Maximum spacing between sprinklersis 14 ft (4.3 m); minimum spacing between sprinklersis 8 ft (2.44 m).• Minimum flow requirement is based on the designdensity applied over the actual area of coverageper sprinkler. Example 1, a design densityof 0.43 gpm/ft 2 (17.5 mm/min) applied over 14 ftx 14 ft (4.3 m x 4.3 m) spacing, or 196 ft 2 (18.2m 2 ), would require a minimum sprinkler designflow rate and pressure of 84.3 gpm (319.2 L/min)at 11.2 psi (0.77 bar). Example 2, a design densityof 0.43 gpm/ft 2 (17.5 mm/min) applied over14 ft x 12 ft (4.3 m x 3.7 m) spacing, or 168 ft 2(15.6 m 2 ), would require a minimum sprinkler designflow rate and pressure of 72.2 gpm (273.3L/min) at 8.2 psi (0.57 bar).• Maximum working pressure - 175 psi (12.1 bar).• Minimum end head pressure - 7 psi (0.5 bar).• The minimum clearance between the deflectorand the top of storage is 3 ft. (0,92m). Forclearances of 3 ft. (0,92m) up to 4 ft. (1,21m), theminimum design pressure is 22 psi (1,52 bar). For clearances of 4 ft. (1,21m) and greater, theminimum design pressure is established by theminimum flow requirement (however, the pressurecan never be less than 7 psi (0,48 bar)).• Available temperature ratings are Ordinary, 165°F (74 °C) and Intermediate, 212 °F (100 °C).Selection of temperature rating is based on theexpected maximum ambient temperature exposure,or in accordance with the high-piled storagedensity/area curve requirements specifiedin Chapter 12 of the 2002 edition of NFPA 13. Inaccordance with the listing of the sprinkler, thedensity curves normally associated with hightemperature rated sprinklers [286°F (141°C)] maybe used with either the ordinary or intermediatetemperature rating of the N252 EC sprinklers.• The obstruction criteria in NFPA 13 for ExtendedCoverage Pendent Sprinklers shall be usedfor the locating and positioning Model N252 ECsprinklers relative to obstructions.Design Criteria for FMThe Model N252 EC Pendent Sprinklers are FM approved tobe utilized in accordance with the following guidelines:• Sprinklers may be used to protect any occupancyfor which there is an area/density designcriterion up to 11.2 k-factor standard spray controlmode area/density sprinklers specified in FMGlobal Data Sheets. Model N252 EC sprinklersare not approved for use in control mode specificapplication or suppression mode protection.• Suitable for use in wet pipe systems, and in drypipeand preaction systems as specifically allowedfor pendent sprinklers in NFPA 13.• Follow obstruction requirements for control-modearea/density sprinklers in FM Data Sheet 2-8Nsection 4-6.5.3.

• Maximum area of coverage per sprinklers is 196ft 2 (18,2 m 2 ). Minimum area of coverage is 100 ft 2(9,3 m 2 ). Maximum spacing between sprinklersis 14 ft (4,3m), minimum spacing between sprinklersis 8 ft.
