MasoSine PumpsAPPLICATION BRIEFMarinated BonelessWhole Poultry MuscleConstant Feed, Undamaged Product, High ReliabilityThe challengePumping large, thick ‘sheets’ of poultrycan prove too difficult for certain pumptypes such as vacuum or air/diaphragmmodels. In order to deliver a constantfeed of complete meat to theprocessing lines, a reliable pumpcapable of handling flexible solids ina repeatable manner is required.Product damage needs to be avoided inorder to maintain the quality of the endproduct and ensure continuity of brandreputation. Other desirable outcomesinclude high yield rates and minimallabor requirements.

Marinated Boneless Whole Poultry MuscleThe solutionA leading poultryprocessor recently switched to aMasoSine Pump for transferring itsmarinated boneless breast meat andis now reaping the benefits. Vacuumand air pumps were previously usedto transfer the product into a drophopper, which attempted to meterthe product on to the conveyor.Neither the vacuum nor air pumpproved to be efficient as bothprovided only slugs of product to theline. This method was inefficient asflow rates were inconsistent. Producthad to be spread manually on to alengthy conveyor, while marinadelosses were significant. With two MasoSine MR160 pumpsinstalled, the final outcome was analmost labor-free roasting line andnear zero losses. The MasoSine MR 160 is a six inchpositive displacement pump thatis capable of pumping very largemarinated chicken and eventurkey breast without damagingthe product beyond use. In thesesituations, the pump is attached toa hopper that is acceptingmarinated boneless products from a vacuum tumbler. From thehopper, the meat is pumped through sanitary tubing leading to a“spreader horn” that feeds the meat on to the conveyor system. Theconveyor system can either lead to a ‘Progrill®’ or directly into a linear orspiral oven.MasoSine MR 160 medium duty sanitary pumps are capable of flowrates up 20,000 lbs per hour when pumping marinated bonelessbreasts/trim meat/ thigh meat. The pumps feature stainless steel‘powerframes’ and stainless 3A baseplates, along with Nema4X-rated VFDs.Customer successIn an effort to reduce labour at a leading poultry processor plant andincrease line efficiency, two MasoSine MR 160 pumps were purchasedto replace the vacuum/air pump system and drop hopper. The pumpswere set up to meter boneless products through spreader hornssupplied by the end user. Two pumps and two horns were arranged tofeed two 16 inch wide, half-inch thick sheets of boneless breast meaton to the conveyor. The final outcome was an almost labour-free roasting line. Two perfectand continuous ‘sheets’ of boneless breast meat now continuously feeda Progrill® leading to the oven. Labour has been reduced to less thanone person, while marinade losses through the conveyor are near zero.Additionally, product damage has decreased, production rates are nowonly limited by the oven/freezer/packaging capacity, and yields haveincreased due to higher moisture content – a factor that equates togreater profitability.MasoSine37 Upton Technology Park, Wilmington, MA 01887Tel: (800) 282-8823 Fax: (978) 658-0041wmpg.com support@wmpg.us
