Guidelines for the AAFP-<strong>AADR</strong> Student Research Group Award:<strong>Categories</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Table</strong> <strong>Clinics</strong>/<strong>Poster</strong> <strong>Presentation</strong><strong>All</strong> presentations must be directly related to the clinical practice <strong>of</strong> fixed prosthodontics.<strong>Table</strong> <strong>Clinics</strong> may include:a) research presentations, provided they emphasizeclinical aspects, problems, and applications; andb) clinical topics, including useful techniques and innovative concepts.<strong>Presentation</strong>s <strong>of</strong> a commercial nature will not be allowed.PresentersA maximum <strong>of</strong> two presenters will be allowed for the poster presentation, but other coauthorsmay be acknowledged as part <strong>of</strong> the presentation. Only one $1,000 award willbe made, thus in cases <strong>of</strong> two presenters, a primary author must be identified.Format <strong>of</strong> <strong>Table</strong> Clinic/<strong>Poster</strong> <strong>Presentation</strong>sThe <strong>Table</strong> Clinic/<strong>Poster</strong> <strong>Presentation</strong> should present the topic in an organized andconcise manner, not lasting more than 5-10 minutes so that it can be repeated formultiple small groups <strong>of</strong> meeting attendees.The preferred formats for presentation are:a) <strong>Poster</strong> presentation.b) Power Point presentation on laptop computer<strong>Poster</strong>s must be designed to be freestanding on the table, as no other means <strong>of</strong>support will be provided. <strong>All</strong> written material (posters, title slides, flip charts, etc.) andillustrations should be designed so that they can be viewed and read from a distance <strong>of</strong>5 feet or more.Equipment<strong>Presentation</strong>s may utilize any audio-visual, computer, or other equipment, as appropriateto the presentation. The Academy will provide a table with drape (approximatedimensions 2 ½’ x 6’). <strong>All</strong> items used for the <strong>Table</strong> Clinic must fit on the supplied table.The Academy will provide only the following additional items, if requested on theapplication:a) one four-plex electrical outlet;b) One easel to hold a flip chart.Abstracts<strong>All</strong> applications must include an abstract <strong>of</strong> the presentation that will be blindly reviewedby the <strong>Table</strong> <strong>Clinics</strong> Committee for selection <strong>of</strong> the award winner. Abstracts should notexceed one page, double-spaced, with minimum 12 point type size. Abstracts should beheaded by the title <strong>of</strong> the presentation (12 word maximum), omitting the presenters’names to insure blind review, and clearly indicate that the abstract is submitted forconsideration <strong>of</strong> the AAFP-SNRG Award.<strong>All</strong> abstracts should include:


a) a description <strong>of</strong> the clinical problem justifying the research or the clinical techniquebeing presented;b) the purpose <strong>of</strong> the presentation; andc) the clinical implications and applications <strong>of</strong> the research results or demonstratedtechnique.d) research abstracts should include a description <strong>of</strong> the research methods andresults, but must emphasize clinical aspects, problems and applications.Applications must also include documentation <strong>of</strong> the student’s enrollment in an ADAaccredited dental education program and membership in the <strong>AADR</strong>-NSRG.Honorarium and Reimbursement <strong>of</strong> PresentersAward winners must commit to presentation at the AAFP Annual Meeting. A travel awardwill be issued in the amount <strong>of</strong> $1,000 to the award winner to assist in <strong>of</strong>fsetting travel,lodging and food costs. The Academy will waive the meeting registration fee for thepresenting award winner.Applications must be received by the <strong>Table</strong> <strong>Clinics</strong> Chairman by September 1, 2007.Applicants will be notified <strong>of</strong> acceptance or denial by November 1, 2007.
