Sw Marc<strong>in</strong> Street 87, <strong>in</strong> the centre <strong>of</strong> Poznan, close to the<br />

A.Mickiewicz Square. <strong>The</strong> build<strong>in</strong>g consists <strong>of</strong> two parts. <strong>The</strong> old<br />

build<strong>in</strong>g, the post-German Evangelical House taken over <strong>in</strong> 1945,<br />

<strong>of</strong> the area <strong>of</strong> 2510 square metres, did not satisfy the needs <strong>of</strong><br />

the constantly grow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stitution. <strong>The</strong>refore, <strong>in</strong> the 80s the decision<br />

<strong>of</strong> extension was made, and the competition for the design<br />

<strong>of</strong> a new build<strong>in</strong>g was announced. It was won by an architect<br />

Jerzy Gurawski. <strong>The</strong> erection <strong>of</strong> the build<strong>in</strong>g from the south-west<br />

side was commenced <strong>in</strong> 1994. <strong>The</strong> first part <strong>of</strong> the construction<br />

was f<strong>in</strong>ished <strong>in</strong> 1997, and the Pope John Paul II consecrated the<br />

2000, the whole build<strong>in</strong>g was opened and the area was <strong>in</strong>creased<br />

by 3450 square metres.<br />

<strong>The</strong> new build<strong>in</strong>g is dist<strong>in</strong>guished by its beautiful elevation, representative<br />

frontage and modern architectonical shape which<br />

refers to the old part. <strong>The</strong> readers <strong>of</strong> “Gazeta Wyborcza” voted it<br />

the best build<strong>in</strong>g erected <strong>in</strong> Poznan <strong>in</strong> the last ten years. <strong>The</strong><br />

square metres satisfies the needs <strong>of</strong> two faculties: Faculty <strong>of</strong><br />

Instruments – specialization <strong>in</strong> Instrumental Pedagogy and Faculty<br />

<strong>of</strong> Choral Conduct<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>Music</strong> Education and Church <strong>Music</strong>.<br />
