Education system at the <strong>Academy</strong><br />

Studies at the Poznan <strong>Academy</strong> are based on the four-faculty<br />

system:<br />

■ Faculty <strong>of</strong> Composition, Conduct<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>The</strong>ory <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> and Eurhythmics<br />

■ Faculty <strong>of</strong> Instruments<br />

■ Faculty <strong>of</strong> S<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g and Act<strong>in</strong>g<br />

■ Faculty <strong>of</strong> Choral Conduct<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>Music</strong> Education and Church <strong>Music</strong><br />

Furthermore, all the students are obliged to attend the classes<br />

organized by the <strong>in</strong>terfaculty units:<br />

■ Department <strong>of</strong> Social Science and Humanities (senior lecturer<br />

Andrzej M. Kempiński Ph.D.- Head <strong>of</strong> the Department)<br />

■ Study Centre for Foreign Languages (lecturer Donata Żukowska<br />

– Head <strong>of</strong> the Study Centre)<br />

■ Study Centre for Pedagogy (Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Anna Organiszczak –<br />

Head <strong>of</strong> the Study Centre)<br />

■ Study Centre for Physical Education and Sport ( Bernard Wieczorek<br />

Ph.D. – Head <strong>of</strong> the Study Centre).<br />

<strong>The</strong> candidates for the studies at the <strong>Academy</strong> must have the<br />

“matura” certificate (graduation certificate <strong>of</strong> secondary education).<br />

Education at the faculties takes place <strong>in</strong> the five-year system<br />

(at the Faculty <strong>of</strong> S<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g and Act<strong>in</strong>g till the 2002/2003 recruitment<br />

– <strong>in</strong> the five-year system).<br />

Hav<strong>in</strong>g f<strong>in</strong>ished the studies, the graduates receive the diploma<br />

with the degree <strong>of</strong> the Master <strong>of</strong> Arts.<br />

<strong>The</strong> educational <strong>of</strong>fer is widened by the postgraduate studies<br />

<strong>of</strong> ‘arts’ (<strong>in</strong> cooperation with the <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> F<strong>in</strong>e Arts <strong>in</strong> Poznan)<br />

and <strong>of</strong> the management <strong>of</strong> culture (<strong>in</strong> cooperation with the Higher<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Social Skills <strong>in</strong> Poznan).<br />

Furthermore – depend<strong>in</strong>g on the number <strong>of</strong> applications – the<br />

<strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers the follow<strong>in</strong>g studies:<br />

■ undergraduate – <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>strumentation, <strong>in</strong>strumental pedagogy and<br />

■ Eurhythmics (extramural, three years)<br />

■ graduate – <strong>in</strong> music education (extramural, five years)<br />

■ postgraduate:<br />

<strong>in</strong> theory <strong>of</strong> music (extramural, three years)<br />

master studies <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>strumentation and artistic viol<strong>in</strong>-mak<strong>in</strong>g (extramural,<br />

one year)<br />

<strong>in</strong> the piano improvisation by E.Jaques-Dalcroze’s method (extramural,<br />

one year).<br />

Study Centre <strong>of</strong> the Polish Language<br />

for Foreign Students<br />

With<strong>in</strong> the frames <strong>of</strong> the SOCRATES/ERASMUS programme,<br />

the foreign students can learn the Polish language at the language<br />

courses organized by the Institute <strong>of</strong> the Polish Philology<br />

at the A. Mickiewicz University <strong>in</strong> Poznan (free participation).<br />

Apart from that, the Institute <strong>of</strong> the Polish Philology at UAM organizes<br />

paid courses: <strong>The</strong> Summer School <strong>of</strong> the Polish Language<br />

and the W<strong>in</strong>ter School <strong>of</strong> the Polish Language (see chapter<br />

Practical Information, p. 57)<br />

Grad<strong>in</strong>g is based on the follow<strong>in</strong>g scale:<br />

Prerequisities for gett<strong>in</strong>g the scholarship<br />

Students <strong>of</strong> the daily studies have the possibility <strong>of</strong> gett<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

scholarship if <strong>in</strong> the previous academic year they achieved:<br />

■ 22 po<strong>in</strong>ts at the major subject<br />

■ 20 po<strong>in</strong>ts as an average <strong>of</strong> all the rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g subjects.<br />

Students <strong>of</strong> the daily studies have the possibility <strong>of</strong> receiv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the student f<strong>in</strong>ancial aid after they prove their bad f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />

conditions. Other methods <strong>of</strong> student aid <strong>in</strong>clude:<br />

■ f<strong>in</strong>ancial help for students liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the dormitory<br />

■ f<strong>in</strong>ancial help for board<br />

■ subsistence allowances.<br />
