CONDUCTING 5-YEAR GRADUATE STUDIES The programme is designed to facilitate the mastering of conducting technique necessary for directing chamber, symphonic, vocal and instrumental, and opera ensembles, and to familiarize students with repertoire of different epochs and genres. A two-part M.A. thesis consists of preparing and conducting a concert, including full symphonic programme and a paper dealing with interpretation or performance. Students earn the Master of Art degree in conducting. Faculty structure COMPOSITION AND MUSIC THEORY CHAIR Its main tasks include: ■ initiation of research tasks, ■ support and substantial supervision of individual research work of the Faculty members ■ organizing composition concerts of teachers and students ■ care of Faculty teaching equipment. THEORY OF MUSIC DEPARTMENT It undertakes research concerning artistic activities of Polish composers, including artists connected with Poznan and Wielkopolska region. It organizes national scholarly sessions dealing with musical culture in the 20 th century. The Department is also engaged in modernizing the teaching process. EURHYTHMICS DEPARTMENT Within the scholarly activities, the Department staff participate in conferences and scholarly sessions dealing with eurhythmics, dance, choreography, as well as with rhythmic therapy (movement classes for autistic children, children with cochlea implants and children with locomotory disabilities). Within its artistic activities, the Department organizes concerts (in Poland and abroad), present movement arrangements of musical works of different epochs and piano improvisations. Teaching facilities The Faculty has 7 classrooms (including one for movement classes in the eurhythmics specialization), an electro-acoustic music studio and a room with computer equipment for students. 14
