07/12/07 Inmate Release Procedures(5) Staff is required to complete the Inmate Release Plan screen (IP55) for anyreleased inmate. IP55 completion must be as accurate and complete as possible,with the state and county code essential. The Plan must be completed before theinmate is released.(6) Any questions or concerns about the validity <strong>of</strong> the instructions should be directedto Combined Records at (919) 716-3200 during normal working hours.(b)COURT-ORDERED RELEASE(1) When a Superior or District Court Judge orders an inmate's sentence vacated,Combined Records will first notify the facility by telephone to inform them thatthe inmate must be released. A related comment will then be placed on theSignificant Issues/Case Management Note screen (IP60/61), and the facility willreceive a faxed copy <strong>of</strong> the court order from Combined Records. If the courtorderedrelease documentation is forwarded directly to the prison facility,Combined Records should be contacted immediately.(2) The facility will not release the inmate until all steps have been completed byCombined Records. Appropriate release documentation will be completed byfacility staff on the External Movements screen (IP20). A copy <strong>of</strong> the court ordershould be retained by the facility for future reference.(3) If a judge orders an inmate to be removed from the Division <strong>of</strong> Prisons' custodydirectly from court (frees the inmate), the facility should immediately contactCombined Records.(4) Staff is required to complete the Inmate Release Plan screen (IP55) for any courtorderedreleased inmate. IP55 completion must be as accurate and complete aspossible, with the state and county code essential. The Plan must be completedbefore the inmate is released if possible.(c)SAFEKEEPER RELEASE(1) Procedures for the release <strong>of</strong> a safekeeper inmate are directed under Chapter C,.1600 Safekeepers, specifically .1608 Release.(2) Appropriate release entry will be completed by facility staff on the ExternalMovements screen (IP20). Any questions as to the validity <strong>of</strong> the proposed release<strong>of</strong> a safekeeper should be directed to Combined Records at (919) 716-3200 duringnormal working hours.(3) Staff is required to complete the Inmate Release Plan screen (IP55) for anyreleased safekeeper inmate. IP55 completion must be as accurate and complete aspossible, with the state and county code essential.
