Themine supplies bauxite to the <strong>Queensland</strong> Alumina Limited refinery and to RTA’s Yarwunrefinery, both located in Gladstone, <strong>Queensland</strong>. They also supply a growing export marketto Ukraine, Japan and China. These refineries produce alumina as feedstock for RTA’ssmelting operations and for sale on the international market.RTA supports Native Title rights and has continued its mining operations in consultation withthe traditional owners of the region. RTA signed an Indigenous Land Use Agreement, the‘Western Cape Communities Coexistence Agreement’, with the traditional owner groupsaround <strong>Weipa</strong>, under which their traditional rights to the land are formally recognised.The commercial export operations for RTA are located at both Lorim Point East and WestWharves and terminal operation can be broken into the following components:onshore bauxite handling;processing and stockpiling facilities;conveyors running to Lorim Point East and West Wharves; andshiploading.<strong>Port</strong> of <strong>Weipa</strong> <strong>Port</strong> <strong>Handbook</strong> Page 4 of 20Revised June 2012
