<strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong>Inside2011-2012IFCPresident’s Letter2 From the BoardPresident’s LetterOn My MindLooking back over the past year we have manyaccomplishments to be proud of such as completing thebuilding at The <strong>Assumption</strong> Green Sports and EducationComplex; state titles in cross country, track and field, andvolleyball; and numerous academic accomplishmentsincluding graduating a National Merit Scholar.Throughout this annual report you will be able to readabout all of our accomplishments and the supportivedonors who made this all possible.On September 15, 2011, we broke ground on thebuilding at The <strong>Assumption</strong> Green and on August17, 2012, we celebrated the grand opening. With thiscomplex, <strong>Assumption</strong> has elevated to a level of whichfew all-girls high schools have achieved in support oftheir athletic programs. But we are not finished! Weare committed to ensuring that The <strong>Assumption</strong> Greengrows and meets the needs of our students. Thebuilding’s green initiatives will facilitate an environmentallaboratory and provide an enhanced science educationand will serve as a learning center for <strong>Assumption</strong>students, their families and friends, and the widerLouisville community.<strong>Assumption</strong> has the distinction of being the first andonly nationally ranked girls cross country high schoolteam from Kentucky. For the first time ever, the teamqualified and competed in the Nike Cross Nationals,where they finished eighteenth. Numerous staterecords were set by our state championship track andwww.ahsrockets.orgfield team. The volleyball team brought home their 16state championship led by the PrepVolleyball NationalPlayer of the Year, Katie George ’12. Their Hall of Famecoach, Ron Kordes, has led the Rockets to 16 statechampionships, 4 national titles, surpassed 800 wins,and was recognized on October 4, 2011, in a ceremonyto name the gymnasium court in his honor.We graduated one National Merit Scholar, three NationalMerit Commended Students, and 12 AP Scholars. TheRosecall newspaper staff received first place from theAmerican Scholastic Press Association national contestand review and won the newspaper division in theKentucky <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Journalism Association Contest.The Rosecast yearbook staff won first place overall fromthe Kentucky <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Journalism Association. Manymore honors were earned by our students in 2011-2012.Thank you to all of the board members, committeemembers, donors, faculty and staff, alumnae, parents,grandparents, supporters, and friends listed in thisannual report. She wasselected as the interim high school representative forthe National Field Hockey Coaches Association.n Lacrosse player Jorgie Dermody ’12 was named theKLA Attack Player of the Year. Jorgie (attack) andSpencer Kurtzahn ’12 (defense) were selected for the2012 All-State Team, and Traci Stansbury ’12 andJesse Riendeau ’13 were selected to play in the All-Star Game.n Softball player Morgan Foley ’12 was named Player ofthe Year, and the softball coaching staff was namedthe 7th Region Coaching Staff of the Year.n Tennis player Abbie Mather ’13 finished as the7th Region singles runner up and made it to thequarterfinals of the state tournament.Hallie Pennington ’15 was awarded the USTAKentucky Regional Sportsmanship Award.n The 4 x 800m relay team of Katherine Receveur ’14,Melanie Strothman ’12, Amanda Vokoun ’12, andCaroline McCaslin ’12 set a new state record andwon their event with a time of 9:17.45.Bailey Davis ’14 won the 1,600m, becoming<strong>Assumption</strong>’s first state champion in that event,and Emily Bean ’14 won the 3,200m, alsobecoming <strong>Assumption</strong>’s first state champion inthat event. Performing and Fine Artsand Speech and Communicationn The faculty and staff of <strong>Assumption</strong> totaled 147,80 of whom were instructional faculty.n Approximately 93% of the instructional faculty held at leastone advanced degree, including four who have doctoral degrees.n29 of the faculty and staff members were alumnae.n Four faculty members were invited to read for AP exams.n 48 faculty and staff members led retreats or parent prayer services.Faculty & Staff8Chorusn Hannah Weitlauf ’12 and KenzieDirr ’13 were selected to the KMEA All-State Chorus. They were chosen fromhundreds of singers who auditionedacross the state and performed ina concert at the Kentucky Center.Weitlauf and Dirr performed in aconcert at the Kentucky Center of theArts on Friday, February 10, 2012.Dirr also made the JCPS All-CountyChorus based on her all-state scores.n Advanced Choir and ChamberChoir received the distinguished ratingat the state competition. Rocket SpectacularThe 31st annual Rocket Spectacular benefit dinnertook place on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Parents,alumnae, and generous businesses came together forone important cause: to raise funds for school programs andneed-based tuition assistance.
