Annual Feasts Of The SS Family -- The Yearly CycleS<strong>in</strong>ce time immemorial our forefa<strong>the</strong>rs worshipped <strong>the</strong> Sun as giver <strong>of</strong> <strong>life</strong> and warmth. Like a golden disk itshone above <strong>the</strong>m, like a wheel it rolled acro<strong>ss</strong> <strong>the</strong> sky.The Sun determ<strong>in</strong>es <strong>the</strong> pa<strong>ss</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> every day, and its path is itself a circle. It draws longer and shorter l<strong>in</strong>esaround <strong>the</strong> Earth. At 6 a.m. we can see it <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> East, at 12 noon <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> South, at 6 p.m. <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> West, and atmidnight, dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> summer, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> far North, where it ends its daily cycle.Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore our ancestors saw <strong>the</strong> pa<strong>ss</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> whole year as po<strong>in</strong>ts on a wheel. That was <strong>the</strong> old wheelcalendar, which could be seen on <strong>the</strong> horizon. Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> W<strong>in</strong>ter Solstice <strong>the</strong> Sun appears <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Arctic North fora short time on <strong>the</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>rn po<strong>in</strong>t; dur<strong>in</strong>g Midsummer Day it is on <strong>the</strong> nor<strong>the</strong>rn po<strong>in</strong>t. The connection <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>sepo<strong>in</strong>ts gives <strong>the</strong> North-South l<strong>in</strong>e <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> horizon.In our latitudes <strong>the</strong> Sun rises on <strong>the</strong> Midsummer and Midw<strong>in</strong>ter Days <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nor<strong>the</strong>ast and <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>ast, and<strong>the</strong>n sets <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Northwest and Southwest.
