Here we see major opportunities for<br />

exporting our expertise, for instance in<br />

bancassurance, to international markets.<br />

Making use of local know-how and the<br />

pres<strong>en</strong>ce of an ext<strong>en</strong>sive sales network<br />

help in id<strong>en</strong>tifying cli<strong>en</strong>ts’ specific needs<br />

and offering tailor-made solutions.<br />

The strategic alliance we <strong>en</strong>tered into with<br />

the Japanese insurance <strong>group</strong> Meiji Yasuda<br />

in 2010 <strong>en</strong>ables us to take advantage of<br />

suitable opportunities together. More on<br />

this topic in the next section.<br />

In Germany, too, we are determined not<br />

to stagnate in retail insurance. Ev<strong>en</strong> this<br />

highly competitive market harbours opportunities<br />

in profitable specialties and innovative<br />

niches. The aging population can<br />

be a boon for us, if we can offer bespoke<br />

products for the upper age <strong>group</strong>.<br />

chAnneling effici<strong>en</strong>cy<br />

in the right direction<br />

Since the beginning of the year under review,<br />

the primary insurance sector has be<strong>en</strong><br />

operating with shared c<strong>en</strong>tral functions,<br />

which not only boosts effici<strong>en</strong>cy but saves<br />

more than a little money.<br />

So the first leg of our journey, re-focusing<br />

on our cli<strong>en</strong>ts and restructuring our Group,<br />

is already behind us; having implem<strong>en</strong>ted<br />

these measures has already <strong>en</strong>hanced our<br />

cost awar<strong>en</strong>ess. And having set up Retail<br />

Germany as a separate division we are also<br />

on schedule for improving cost effici<strong>en</strong>cy<br />

still further. The harmonisation of our IT<br />

landscape in Germany by the new company<br />

Talanx Systeme AG, founded in the year<br />

under review, is running smoothly.<br />

The developm<strong>en</strong>t of the Talanx Group to<br />

date shows: the actions tak<strong>en</strong> by Talanx<br />

to be ev<strong>en</strong> more broadly lined up for the<br />

future and to further improve our ability to<br />

meet the demands of the capital market are<br />

taking effect.<br />

We have put our cli<strong>en</strong>ts behind the<br />

steering­wheel and aligned our new<br />

organisational structure to their<br />

needs.<br />

This <strong>en</strong>ables us to cater ideally to<br />

differ<strong>en</strong>t cli<strong>en</strong>t <strong>group</strong>s, regions and<br />

cooperation partners. And also makes<br />

it easier to integrate new companies<br />

and/or divisions into the Group. What<br />

is more, lean, effici<strong>en</strong>t and uniform<br />

business processes are a major success<br />

factor in support of our Group<br />
