SpotlightonOutreachSANDY RELIEF TASK FORCE UPDATEThe past few months have been busy ones for the Sandy Relief Task Force.We have made several fact finding trips to the shore, and we haveestablished relationships with the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church in PointPleasant and the Gateway Church of Christ in the Union Beach area.PCM Outreach donated $5,000 to the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Churchto help build their volunteer village.Our church has reserved a week inPoint Pleasant (July 28-August 3)for up to 36 people, which will includeour high school youth. Please go towww.pcmorristown.org/PointPleasantfor information and to register for a trip.On April 6, forty PCM members and friends traveled toUnion Beach for a work day. We worked on three homesand planted sea grass on the sandy shore of Raritan Bay.$3,000 in gift cards was used to purchase materialsneeded to repair the homes (sheetrock, insulation, etc.).See comments from volunteers on page 9. Future workdays in Union Beach are planned for April 27, May 7and 18 and June 1, 13 and 29.Our church has scheduled a work week in Forked River,NJ during October of this year. The host volunteervillage at Forked River Presbyterian Church can accommodateup to 12 volunteers. Please check the PCMwebsite in a month for information and how to sign up.Recovery and rebuilding from Sandy will take years.All of us can help. You can go on work projects. You can give money: checks made out to ThePresbyterian Church in Morristown with Sandy Reliefin the memo line. 100% of this money goes to thosewho need it most, no overhead. You can pray. PCM Volunteers Reflect on April 6 Mission Trip to Union BeachI had a fabulous time working with our group and being part of improving someone’slife, even if we didn’t get it all finished. — Sherry GuthrieAt first we were nervous about going—not knowing what was expected of us and thesituation at Union Beach we were encountering. When we met the homeowner, weimmediately felt a sense of calmness. She was happy and excited to receive our help.We (the volunteer team) started working and it all “clicked”. There was a “vibe”, an“energy”. We worked together as a team! There was a common understanding and acommon goal. We left feeling fantastic with a sense of accomplishment for this family(a single mom with three daughters age 7 and under). In one day, we gave her a hugeleap in recovering an unusable space damaged by the storm.As a mother and daughter, we worked hard together. We got tired and hungrytogether. We made new friends with other members. We felt great about what welearned and what we did. — Mother and daughter, Betty and Julia DarcyWith the arrival of spring, the Interfaith Food Pantry starts preparing for summer when itsclients’ demands remain, but its donations drop off. In an effort to help the Pantry startthe summer with well-stocked shelves, we will hold our annual May Food Drive on YouthSunday, May 19. Donated items may be brought to church that Sunday or put in the binsat the Parish House the week before. Of course, the bins are there all year to welcomeyour regular donations.
