Midweek Music with Julie RamseyerLittle PipesThe Bel Melodia and Bel Canto choirs are excited to help lead worshipon Youth Sunday which also happens to be Pentecost, this year.“Twelve Disciples in the Temple” uses the hymn tune, TOKYO, withwhole tone scales and percussion instruments to highlight the Pentecosttext written by Mary Nelson Keithahn. After the children introduce themelody in a variety of ways, the congregation will join in singing the lastverse. The Bel Canto choir is ringing Mozart’s “A Little Night Music”,while the Bel Melodia children accompany the congregation with the hymn, “Spirit”.As is our tradition, we end our Midweek season with a giant scavenger hunt (Wednesday,May 22) utilizing just about every square inch of the Parish House.Pipe SqueaksThe children of the Church School are learning the hymns to be sung on May 19, YouthSunday. “As the Wind Song”, one of our hymns, has a slightly unusual history. Most hymnsare written, words first, tune second. Swee Hong Lim, the composer from Singapore, wrote themelody and then sent it to Shirley Murray in New Zealand to write the words, a true multi culturalhymn. How perfect for Pentecost!OvertonesThe Tower Ringers and Singers lead worship on May 5 after a long day at Great Adventure,May 4. Hopefully, we won’t be sunburned. This choir will sing their first real spiritual—not ahymn—“I’m Going to Sing When the Spirit Says Sing”. The Ringers are playing “Come, O ThouTraveler Unknown” by Jason Krug set to the traditional Scottish tune, Chandler. We have somany 8 th graders this year that they will be playing their own selection, “I Will Arise and Go toJesus”. Cathy Mokelbust has arranged the hymn tune, “Restoration”, to honor Americanhandbell pioneer, Mary Kettelhut.Spirito is singing on Mother’s Day, May 12, and Youth Sunday, May 19. AlthoughTelemann’s “O Come Holy Spirit” is a unison anthem, it contains tricky runs for young voices. We finish the season with our annual dinner at a fancy restaurant. Please contact Julie Ramseyer,Director of Children’s Music, if youhave questions, at 973-538-1776or julie@diagonalservice.com.20
