Music HighlightsTuning things up…Looking back over the past ten months since my arrival at ThePresbyterian Church in Morristown, I cherish many fond memoriesthat I will carry with me for some time. The warmth and support ofso many people has made my transition an easy and pleasant one.As we look toward the future of the music ministry of our church,there are two new exciting developments:A new vocal ensemble for high school students will begin in September. The addition ofthis group will give us a comprehensive choral and handbell program for students in our church.While other incarnations of this choir have existed in the past, this choir will be a bit different inthat it is a group whose identity is not directly tied to our Ringers-on-the-Green program.Students in 9 th through 12 th grades are welcome to be in either ensemble, yet it will not be arequirement that students be in both ensembles (though we hope that MANY will be!!!). Thisvocal ensemble will rehearse weekly on Wednesday evenings in conjunction with the new highschool youth group time. Ringers-on-the-Green will continue to rehearse on Sunday afternoons,as that seems to be the best time for that group to meet. Since the new vocal ensembleand the Ringers-on-the-Green will meet at very different times, it will provide a better schedulefor students to participate in both groups without being involved multiple evenings of the week .This vocal ensemble will sing regularly in worship services and will periodically presentconcerts, both at our church and in the community. The group will interface with Ringers-onthe-Greenregularly, but the details of this interaction will evolve over time. Again, this groupis open to all high school students who have an interest in singing!With the addition of this new ensemble, I would like to transition Cantate Omnes into a choir ofadult members who will sing on a regular basis. This group will continue to function without aregular weekly rehearsal, and will rehearse before the services in which they sing. Wecurrently have a very faithful regular group that is small in number but dedicated and gifted, butwe need more members! On Sunday, May 12 at the 9:15 a.m. service, we will have a ComeOne Come All opportunity to explore Cantate Omnes targeted at potential members. If youhave any interest in singing in a choral ensemble yet do not have the flexibility to rehearseweekly during the evening, Cantate Omnes is PERFECT for you. This group will be singing ona very regular basis in the fall and we want to have as many members as possible! Ourrehearsal that day will begin at 8:15 a.m. in the choir room at the Church on the Green.Please consider “trying us on for size” to see if Cantate Omnes is the right fit for you!Again, it is my joy to be at PCM, and I look forward to many more meaningful, exciting worshipand music experiences in the future!Blessings,Matt Webb, Director of Music18
