Dear Edith Nicols, Karl Hipp, Daria Lisco, and the Morristown Presbyterian Family,Thank you for you kind letters and support for the military. Your letters found their way over the seas tothe Gulf and the Marines of Company I, Battalion Landing Team, 3d Battalion, 5th Marines, 15th MarineExpedition Unit. It is a long title, but we are members of a Marine infantry battalion that is currentlyforward deployed as a global force in readiness. We are one part of a larger group that deploys as a selfsustaining operating unit. We conduct training with foreign militaries as a form of diplomatic outreach andstand ready to conduct any mission the United States needs in this region of the world. We are currently workingour way through our 8 month deployment.Your letters are always a nice welcome as they reinforce that we are supported back home. Defense ofthe people and their interests is one of the reasons we are out here. We have a range of experience with theMarines and Sailors on board. For some, this is their first deployment and others have six or more to combatzones. Personally, I am on my second deployment, my first to Afghanistan in the Helmand province.I am from not too far from all of you, Madison, NJ. I went to college at the University of Virginia on aNaval ROTC scholarship and was commissioned into the Marine Corps the day before graduation in May of2008. Reading about the Memorial Day celebration and everyone's experiences just brought me home. NewJersey is a great state and Morris Country a wonderful place to live and grow up. Please enjoy its beautyand make the most out of your week for me.
