“I spent my first six weeks at NEMC last summer, and after the first day,
I already felt like I had been going there my whole life. I always feel weird
calling NEMC a summer camp, because for me it has been so much more
than that. I mean, what comes to mind when you think of summer camp?
Campfire songs, friendship bracelets, sports, and new friends tend to fit
the cliché of a summer camp description. Sure, NEMC has all of that, but
to call it a summer camp just does not do it justice. Imagine you could
spend an entire summer at a place where you could pursue your one most
powerful passion nonstop. NEMC is that place for me. And not only does
it give me the opportunity to develop my skills in music, but it allows me
to do it surrounded by some of the best people I have ever met. NEMC
is that place where people who spontaneously burst into song all alone
during the year can burst into song in six-part harmony with twelve
random other people during the summer. It is the place where teenagers
get out of bed at six in the morning without complaining because they
are too excited to start the day. It is the place where you can watch the
sunset over a lake while listening to someone practicing a cello concerto or
a horn solo. Even though I have as of yet only spent six weeks in total at
NEMC, it has already become my second home.”
