TRAINING CENTRE FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDSSUMMER EDITION APRIL-JUNE <strong>2011</strong>Manoj Jayakumar as Outstanding Physical TherapistShruti Nadkarni as Outstanding Occupational TherapistMarion Ritchie as Outstanding Music Therapist<strong>Al</strong> <strong>Noor</strong> <strong>Training</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> once again bagged severalawards during this year’s Princess Haya Awards <strong>for</strong>Special Education. The event was held on the 12th ofApril, <strong>2011</strong> at the Madinat Jumeirah. Professionals from the field ofSpecial Education from different <strong>Centre</strong>s from the UAE and abroad,witnessed this prestigious annual event to honour and acknowledgethe exemplary achievements and ef<strong>for</strong>ts of people and organizationswho are dedicated to the cause of special needs.<strong>Al</strong> <strong>Noor</strong> won three awards in the category of ‘OutstandingTherapist’. Ms. Shruti Nadkarni, Special Services Coordinator, receivedthe award <strong>for</strong> ‘Outstanding Occupational Therapist’ and Mr. ManojJayakumar, assistant HOD, Department of Physical Therapy receivedthe award <strong>for</strong> ‘Outstanding Physiotherapist.’ Ms. Marion Ritchie,WINNERS ALL THE WAY!Isphana <strong>Al</strong> Khatib, Director of <strong>Al</strong> <strong>Noor</strong>, received the award of OutstandingSpecial Education Project <strong>for</strong> Smiles N’ Stuff.Music Therapist, received the award <strong>for</strong> ‘Outstanding MusicTherapist’.In addition, the <strong>Centre</strong> won the ‘Outstanding Special NeedsAwareness Campaign’ <strong>for</strong> its ‘Initiative <strong>for</strong> Inclusion… Footsteps intothe Future’. This campaign aims to fulfill the Mission of <strong>Al</strong> <strong>Noor</strong> bycreating opportunities <strong>for</strong> interactions in the community <strong>for</strong> childrenwith special needs through various planned and structured initiativesto increase awareness about abilities and talents of individuals withspecial needs.Last but not least, the <strong>Centre</strong> also won the ‘Outstanding SpecialEducation Project’ <strong>for</strong> “Smiles N’ Stuff” Retail Store.Congratulations to the team who put in the ef<strong>for</strong>t to preparethe applications <strong>for</strong> these awards!

This wonderfulSUMMER EDITION APRIL-JUNE <strong>2011</strong>acknowledgement is a great motivation <strong>for</strong>everybody at the <strong>Centre</strong>.<strong>Al</strong> Safa Nursery handing over a cheque to the students of <strong>Al</strong><strong>Noor</strong>. The funds were raised from a Walkathon whereparents and their toddlers participated.Seashells Nursery presented a donation to thechildren of <strong>Al</strong> <strong>Noor</strong>. The proceeds were raised fromthe auction of their students’ paintings.From the DirectorAdidas handing over a cheque to thechildren of <strong>Al</strong> <strong>Noor</strong>.<strong>Al</strong> Naboodah handing over a cheque to Khalid <strong>Al</strong>Halyan Chairman, <strong>Al</strong> <strong>Noor</strong>. The funds were raised fromthe <strong>Al</strong> Naboodah Charity Golf Tournament.We have also organized a BloodDonation Drive this term, to highlight the factthat our students, families and staff, believe ingiving as much as taking from the community.Some of our Special Needs youngsters happilydonated blood after being declared medicallyfit. I was very happy to seemy son, Shaun, do the activities in theSwimming pool. And I am sure that many ofthe parents that witnessed the per<strong>for</strong>manceof their children’s felt the same. TRAINING CENTRE FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDSFeatureTThe blood donation drive organised by the <strong>Al</strong><strong>Noor</strong> <strong>Training</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> <strong>for</strong> Children withSpecial Needs on 18th May <strong>2011</strong> saw 56people give their blood to help save lives. 16parents, 35 staff and volunteers, and most significantly5 people with Special Needs participated in this exercise.We felt it was time to give back to our own community by engaging ourselves in aworthy community interaction.
