The program is part of the Workforce InvestmentAct serving individuals who have beendisplaced from their jobs and are unlikely to findemployment in their previous occupation. Thisservice is provided through the St. Charles CountyDepartment of Workforce Development at theMissouri Career Center. Contact the Missouri CareerCenter at 636-255-6060.Services Provided:• Job Search Assistance: Including résumépreparation, identification of transferableskills, informational and job interviewingskills and marketing yourself to employers.Various workshops and networking opportunitiesare provided.• Individual Career Consultation: An individualplan of action is developed to determinejob search goals and career direction.• Career Resource Center: For use by customersduring their job search. Phones, copier,fax machine, IBM computers, laser printersand employer directories are available. Internetaccess is also available.• Job Placement Assistance: Including currentlabor market information and access to availablejob listings from area employers.• Training Opportunities: Available for eligiblecustomers who require upgrade training orretraining into a different career. Adult Education and LiteracyAdult Education and Literacy(AEL/GED/ESL)St. Charles Community College coordinatesa four-county effort (St. Charles, Warren, Lincolnand Pike) to teach basic reading, mathand writing skills, to prepare people to takethe GED Tests and to assist non-native speakersin gaining English proficiency. Free dayand evening classes are available. Studentsmust be at least 17 years old and not enrolledin secondary school. Literacy tutors provide one-on-onetutoring for students with low reading levels.English as a Second Language (ESL)Classes provide reading, writing, listening andspeaking activities at English proficiency levelsfor people wishing to improve their English languageskills.Citizenship PreparationClasses help students prepare for the citizenshipinterview. Students must have a resident cardfor four years or more (two years if spouseis a citizen) and at least intermediate-levelEnglish skills.TOEFL PreparationClasses help students prepare for the Test ofEnglish as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Examineesare required to complete and submit the demographicsform prior to their test date. Thetesting application must be approved beforecompleting the demographics form. (See GED®Demographics Form, below.) For paper/penciltesting dates, call 636-922-8629.To register for the computer-based tests, go towww.gedcomputer.com. Each of the five contentarea tests cost $28 ($140 total). Content areatests may be taken and paid for individually.Applications, demographics, scheduling andpayment must be completed online.
