Sunnybrook Management Commentary and Analysis 2014/15

1. Introduction
Outstanding patient care, research and
lifelong learning made 2014/15
memorable and successful for
Sunnybrook and for the 1.2 million
patients and families the Hospital cared
for when it matters most. A significant
highlight from the last year was the
development of Strategic Plan 2015 –
2018. The plan points Sunnybrook
toward the future by providing a road map
for how the organization will move forward
its mission and vision, while also balancing
the Hospital’s dual role as a teaching and
research hospital with a defined
community to serve.
On many days, demand for care at
Sunnybrook outweighs the Hospital’s
physical capacity. Strategic Plan 2015 -
2018 aims to reduce Sunnybrook’s
inpatient occupancy levels, which often
exceed 100 per cent, to move toward a
more manageable 95 per cent.
Preparation and readiness were two
dominant themes during 2014/15.
Sunnybrook responded quickly to ensure
a team of staff were ready should a
patient present as a suspected Ebola
case. Staff also worked diligently to
