14. Digital Technology
State-of-the-art technologies and innovations continued to enhance patient care at
Sunnybrook during the last year. Digital technologies have improved patient outcomes
by helping the Hospital identify and track infections, medication errors and also alerting
physicians to drug interactions and other problems. SunnyCare’s “one-stop-shop”
electronic medical record system, providing clinicians with access to patient lists, lab
results, radiology reports, and more, earned Sunnybrook national recognition for its
leadership.
MyChart adds new ‘Mood Tracker’ feature
MyChart, which allows patients to set
up, manage and access their own
personal health record online, is now
accessed in over 130 countries around
the world by patients and their families.
With over 72,000 active users, MyChart
receives on average over 2600 new
users each month. In 2014/15, a new
‘Mood Tracker’ feature was added,
allowing patients to record moods and
feelings they experience throughout
the day on their mobile devices and
computers. Information can be used
as part of the patient plan in Psychiatry
and other clinical areas, so that patients
may play a more active part in their
health monitoring outside the walls of
the Hospital. Research suggests that
when patients are empowered to track
their moods and feelings, their outcomes
will be better.
