13. Safety
Sunnybrook strived in 2014/15 to raise awareness and facilitate implementation of
best practices to achieve the highest quality care for patients and their families. As
always, the Quality Improvement Plan tracked performance in a number of highpriority
areas, driving the Hospital’s commitment to continuous improvement in patient
safety and quality. International recognition was garnered over the last year, including
the re-verification of the Ross Tilley Burn Centre by the American Burn Association.
Sunnybrook also joined a number of large databases, allowing the Hospital to compare
its performance with local, national and international academic hospitals that provide
care to similar surgical patient populations. These include the American College of
Surgeons, National Surgical Quality Improvement Program, the American College
of Surgeons, Trauma Quality Improvement Program and the University of Toronto’s
Cardiovascular Data Management Centre.
