Cardiac surgery nurse practitioner cross-training initiative<br />
An innovative model involving the<br />
cross training of cardiac surgery nurse<br />
practitioners in the care <strong>and</strong> management<br />
of cardiology patients was introduced in<br />
the Schulich Heart Centre. The benefits<br />
of the new model include an exp<strong>and</strong>ed<br />
knowledge base <strong>and</strong> skill set for cardiac<br />
surgery nurse practitioners, as well<br />
as an opportunity to pursue quality<br />
improvement work <strong>and</strong> research.<br />
<strong>Sunnybrook</strong> nurse saluted for exceptional work<br />
Linda Jurincic, an oncology nurse at the<br />
Odette Cancer Centre, was selected<br />
as the first place winner in the annual<br />
Nursing Hero Awards organized by<br />
Hospital News, one of Canada’s leading<br />
health care newspapers. The Nursing<br />
Hero Awards, announced annually in<br />
honour of National Nursing Week, salute<br />
Canadian nursing heroes <strong>and</strong> highlight<br />
their exceptional work.<br />
