6. Research Institute<br />
<strong>Sunnybrook</strong> Research Institute (SRI), with more than 295 scientists <strong>and</strong> clinicianscientists,<br />
leads from discovery to clinical impact via the medical marketplace.<br />
Physicists, engineers, geneticists, molecular <strong>and</strong> cellular biologists, <strong>and</strong> health services<br />
researchers, along with business partners, work with practitioners <strong>and</strong> patients to<br />
solve the most challenging problems in medical science. The second anniversary of<br />
SRI’s Image-Guided Therapeutics Program was celebrated with the Federal Economic<br />
Development Agency for Southern Ontario that invested $6.9 million into the program,<br />
which the private sector matched. SRI continued to support <strong>and</strong> cultivate student-led<br />
research, including the D+H SRI Summer Student Research Program, a four-month<br />
program allowing undergraduates to learn the fundamentals of scientific inquiry while<br />
being mentored by SRI faculty. With research spanning the three Hospital campuses,<br />
<strong>and</strong> 500,000 square feet of space, SRI worked through <strong>2014</strong>/<strong>15</strong> to ensure patients<br />
benefit from breakthroughs faster than ever.<br />
