Technology-enhanced learning
A full-day event focused on technologyenhanced
learning, from simulation
to virtual reality. Designed for the GTA
health care community and partners
in education, the day included a
broad range of world-class speakers,
presentations, posters and interactive
workshops. Awards were given to Drs.
Jeremy Rezmovitz and Ian MacPhee for
“Use of an iPad App as a Teaching Tool
in Family Practice,” and to Dr. Asim Alam,
Hanna Goldberg, Jessica Liu and Chaim
Bell for “The Characteristics of Disciplined
International Medical Graduates by
Professional Colleges in Canada.”
Integration of patient education into care
An interprofessional daily patient care
record for the inpatient units at the
Bayview Campus was developed to
embed multiple best practices, including
patient education. Ensuring that patient
education is central to daily care is
just one more way that Sunnybrook is
encouraging the best health literacy for
patients and families. There is also annual
funding for print materials to support the
delivery of patient and family education
at Sunnybrook and to build capacity in
creating patient and family education
best practices.
Commitment to internationally educated professionals
With the goal of supporting those
clinical and non-clinical professionals
who immigrated to Canada, as well as
Canadians who obtained their degrees
outside of Canada, an Internationally
Educated Professionals Committee
helped to integrate staff both into the
Sunnybrook community and also the
Toronto community. The committee
developed a guide to support leaders in
guiding staff who are highly technically
skilled in understanding of the Canadian
health care system, and providing support
during their time at Sunnybrook.
