All visitors must enterthrough the NIH Gateway Center atMetro or the West Gateway VisitorCenter. You will be asked to submit toa vehicle or personal inspection.Visitors over 15 years of age mustprovide a form of government-issuedID such as a driver's license orpassport. Visitors under 16 years ofage must be accompanied by anadult.Vehicle Inspections – All vehiclesand their contents will be inspectedupon entering the campus.Additionally, all vehicles enteringcertain parking areas will beinspected, regardless of any priorinspection. Drivers will be required topresent their driver’s license and maybe asked to open the trunk and hood.If you are physically unable toperform this function, please informthe inspector and they will assist you.Vehicle inspection may consist of anycombination of the following:Detection Dogs Teams (K-9),Electronic Detection Devices andManual Inspection.After inspection, you will be issued avehicle inspection pass. It must bedisplayed on your vehicle’sdashboard while you are on campus.The inspection pass is not a "parkingpermit." It only grants your vehicleaccess to enter the campus. You canonly park in designated parkingareas. ( See campus map)Personal Inspections – All visitorsshould be prepared to submit to apersonal inspection prior to enteringthe campus. These inspections maybe conducted with a handheldmonitoring device, a metal detectorand by visible inspection.Additionally, your personalbelongings may be inspected andpassed through an x-ray machine.Visitor passes must beprominently displayed at alltimes while on the NIH campus.
