HMS EdinburghHMS Edinburgh, a 30-year-old Type 42 Destroyer,which was affiliated to <strong>The</strong> <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Scots</strong> andsubsequently to <strong>The</strong> <strong>Royal</strong> Regiment of Scotland, isbeing decommissioned. She paid her final visit toEdinburgh in May which included exercising the ship'sfreedom rights by marching up <strong>The</strong> <strong>Royal</strong> Mile wherethe salute was taken by the Lord Provost. <strong>The</strong>following day the ship was open to the public in Leithdocks where there were displays by the <strong>Royal</strong> MarinesReserves and Sea Cadets and music by the <strong>Royal</strong>Marines Band.HMS Edinburgh served with distinction in theFalklands in 1982 where two other ships of the classwere sunk. She also served in both conflicts in theMiddle East and more recently in support ofoperations in Libya.<strong>The</strong> Regiment is proud of its links with HMSEdinburgh which, because of the exigencies of service,have often been tenuous. In 2001, however, PiperMcIntyre spent two months aboard the ship duringwhich time visits were made to the Azores and PuertoRico, the Panama Canal was transited and calls madeat ports in Columbia, Peru and the Falkland Islands. Itwas as Piper McInytyre later recalled: '<strong>The</strong> chance ofa lifetime'.We send our very best wishes to all members of theship's complement and hope that they will continue toenjoy their time in the Senior Service.HMS EdinburghCdr Borbone with Lord ProvostSale of Silver1 SCOTS have returned a number of surplus silveritems formerly the property of 1 RS Officers' Mess.<strong>The</strong>se have been valued by a specialist and some ofthem, with the agreement of the Regimental andMuseum Trustees, will be offered for auction to theRegimental family in the autumn.
