Some people think the transverse rotor combine reached its functional limit several years ago. Others think competitive rotor configurationsare infinitely scalable without reaching a point where weight, size and complexity might outweigh some of the design benefits. Both of these ideas are false.Limitations2

This changes everythingEngineers were once convinced they could not expand on the very efficient and effective designof the transverse combine because combines could not be wider. In 2008, AGCO engineerssolved this problem by increasing the diameter of the rotor. The added capacity of the rotorled to needed increases in the accompanying systems for cleaning and handling grain. Thecombine was completed with several other functional improvements based on years of testingand refining the platform. The Super Series is unique in that it gained capacity without increasing machine weight andactually decreased fuel consumption per bushel harvested. The new design retains or improveselements of earlier designs that have provided Gleaner its legendary low loss levels and highsample quality. The resulting machines offer all the nimbleness of our prior R Series with a significant increasein capacity and capability. For those farmers who want all of the performance without all the bulk,we present to you our latest innovation: the Gleaner Super Series.3

This incredible design is the result of a partnership that joins engineering with field smarts. We like to say it’s the perfect marriageof ideas and practicality. The first Gleaner S7 prototype was designed, built and tested beginning in 2008. In the summer of 2009 it began a run through wheat, spent time on the road with custom harvesters and farmers across North America and proved itself in the tough, wet corn and beanharvest of fall 2009.History in the making2134 51. The Gleaner Super Series engineering and production team pauses to cheer several more units off the line. These combines areheaded to the field to show what they are capable of; other units were constructed and dispatched to farm shows.2. The black Gleaner S7 prototype “Stealth” cuts with a custom harvesting crew in Brewster, Kansas. The Stealth spent two seasonstesting in different crops and conditions. Its unusual paint job occasionally led passers-by to pull over for a better look.3. The Gleaner N Series engineering team poses for a portrait alongside the historic machine before its introduction. The remarkableNatural Flow technology, accelerator rolls and two-stage cleaning that started with the N Series continue in the Super Series.4. A field test engineer makes some adjustments to a corn head while testing the S7 during the 2009 corn harvest. The Super Serieswas developed as a high-performance combine in all crops and conditions. 2009’s high moisture and record yields gave the S7 achance to pit the new technology against truly challenging conditions.5. Rain begins to fall as the S7 harvests soybeans. Wet fields, green stems and high moisture gave the S7 perfect conditions fortesting its limits.6

Built with farmers in mindThe Gleaner Super Series is built to help you get a job done. Because of this, we’ve organized the information in this bookletaround your needs and your operation. Simply look up the details most important to your operation below and you’ll see how we’recompletely better and completely different from everyone else.1 You want to reduce grain lossGrain loss occurs in two areas: at the rotor dueto incomplete threshing and poor separationand at the cleaning shoe. The Gleaner Super Series continues the traditionof using a threshing and separating area thatis open 360 degrees (page 14). This mattersbecause it allows free grain that is ready toseparate to do so instead of spinning inside therotor until the grate area opens back up. Thelarger rotor and cage has more surface area foreven more effective threshing and separating. The Gleaner Super Series is the only combinedesigned with accelerator rolls that propel thegrain through a curtain of air created by thetransverse fan (page 15). This curtain of airpre-cleans the material before it reaches theshoe, which reduces the amount of materialbuild-up on the shoe and improves overallcleaning efficiency.2 You want less slope sensitivityInstead of relying on gravity, which adverselyaffects material falling from the rotor to thecleaning shoe, the accelerator rolls propel grainand chaff from the rotor through the air blast atfour times the speed of free fall and onto theshoe. As the force of gravity shifts on slopes, the accelerator rolls still focus the materialdirectly toward the shoe. Additionally, the factthat much of the cleaning occurs in the air blastbefore the material reaches the shoe meansthere is less material build-up, which is oftenwhat leads to loss in hillside conditions.3 You want to prevent pluggingPlugging occurs in the feeding system for tworeasons: forcing more material into a space thatis too small and trying to stuff material into aspace instead of pulling the flat crop material in.The Gleaner Super Series rotor is fed by two fourstrandfeed chains. The second chain operatesfaster than the first so material is consistentlydrawn instead of pushed. The second feed chainremains in a fixed position, which is importantbecause it means the angle of feeding into therotor never changes. Finally, because of thetransverse configuration, a flat even width of cropmaterial travels directly from the feeder houseup into the rotor. The crop mat is not shifted, turned, beaten, compressed or pushed into therotor as in the majority of other combine designs.Instead, the rotor’s action draws the crop up andin for smooth, uniform feeding.4 You want more time harvesting andless time unloadingThe two-auger design produces an averageunloading rate of 4 bushels per second, the fastest unloading system available onany combine. The optional, foldable, grainbin extensions allow a grain bin capacity of390 bushels, which is the largest grain bincapacity available on any stock combine onthe market today.5 You want to reduce grain damageThe gentle 360-degree threshing systemallows grain to pass through the cage afterit is threshed instead of staying within therotor cage until it comes to an opening. Thisreduces the chance that grain will be damagedduring threshing.6 You want to reduce field compactionThe Gleaner Super Series S77 is the lightestClass VII rotary combine built.7

7 You want to negotiate wet fieldswhen neededA Gleaner Super Series is the only combinethat has a fully welded frame. Because boltedframes can sometimes flex and preventefficient torque distribution, a Gleaner allowsyou to keep power and traction on the groundwhere it’s needed. It also features a lowercenter of gravity than any other machine.8 You want to get back in the fieldquickly if there is an issue with themachineGleaner combines are built to be easilyserviceable. The rotor in the Super Series can beremoved in as little as 30 minutes. The majorityof main service points are accessible at groundlevel. Belts, drives and pulleys are convenientlyplaced where they are readily accessible.9 You want to be confident in yourinvestmentGleaner combines have a remarkable longevity, confirmed by the many decades-old Gleanersstill harvesting. Gleaners have alwaysmaintained their resale value based onindependent used-equipment pricing guides.Gleaner combines are supported by our stateof-the-artAGCO Parts distribution systembased in Batavia, Illinois, and regional partscenters around North America. You can beconfident in faithful support and reliableservice as long as you own your machine.10 You want to be comfortable whileharvestingWe want those harvest days to take the leasttoll on you and your combine. The cab on theSuper Series (page 24) is designed with longdaycomfort and convenience in mind andfeatures the only high-back super-comfort seatavailable on a combine.11 You want to use less fuelGleaner Super Series are the only combineswith a unitized welded frame, and becausethey weigh far less than many other combinesand feature efficient straight-through drivesand new Tier IV interim compliant engines, theefficiency of the Super Series translates intofuel savings. These machines are harvestingmore and consuming less fuel than competitivemachines and the Gleaner models they replacein observed benchmark testing.12 You want clean, high-quality grainThe crop is fed into the Gleaner’s rotor insteadof being pushed in with a beater system. Theresult is less cob breakage and cob presencein the sample. The exclusive accelerator rollspropel grain through a high-velocity air blast. Then the material is cleaned a second time onthe shoe where air lifts lighter material with anupward blast and pushes it out the combinewith an outward-facing blast.13 You want to be able to harvest highermoisture and green stem cropsThe Gleaner’s Natural Flow system providesa smoother flow of material through theprocessor and eliminates the pinch pointcompetitive machines experience in highmoistureand green stem conditions. Cropspends less time in the processor, reducinghorsepower requirements. The larger-diameterrotor and constant-pitch helical vanes providemore capacity and minimize grain lossSeparator knives help prevent material fromwrapping while the mid-air cleaning systempre-cleans the crop and gets much of thepotentially shoe-clogging material out of thecleaning process early.8

While the Super Series is a new model for Gleaner, its components are not untested technology. Over eight decades, the Gleanercombine has become known for its unique design and performance and many of those unique attributes and mechanisms remain in thislatest edition. The Gleaner performance comes from the combination of our own patented processes and components with a designunlike any of our competitors'.Here’s what makes a Gleaner unique:1 Two-stage, four-strand gathering chain system. This allows the cylinder to be smoothly fed at the same angle regardless of theheader height. Long feeder house with lowered rear feed floor providing an increase of 65 in² (420 cm²) to allow a smooth andhigher flow of material.2 The Natural Flow transverse rotor in our Tritura processor keeps crop moving in one uninterrupted direction directly from theheader, into the rotor and out the rear of the machine.3 Distribution augers to spread material evenly before it enters the cleaning process, allowing a uniform ribbon of materialwithout the uneven feeding and bunching of other designs.4 Accelerator rolls that speed the crop's descent, allowing more air to clean the crop more thoroughly with reduced sensitivity tohills and slopes without the expense and complexity of self-leveling cleaning systems.5 Transverse fan with exclusive two-stage cleaning. The first stage cleans heavy material right beneath the accelerator rolls, pushing chaff out the rear of the combine. The second stage comes up through the sieve and chaffer, lifting remaining chaffand carrying it out the rear of the combine. This greatly improves cleaning efficiency over competitive designs.Heart and soul of a Gleaner6 Fully welded frame keeps the S7 Series solid, strong and provides a stable foundation for all shafts and components.7 Low center of gravity, heavy final drives and welded frames on the S7 Series provide for large bin capacities of 300 bushels(10,570 L) on the S67 and 330 bushels (11,629 L) on the S77, which is the largest standard bin capacity in the industry.Optional 390 (13,743 L) bushel bin capacity on both models is the largest optional bin capacity available on any combine.8 Unique "Direct Flow" two-auger design features a large 12” (305 mm) grain bin cross auger that feeds the 14” (356 mm) swivelunloader auger. Because we use only two augers versus 90-degree turns of competitive three or more auger turret systems, you deliver better grain quality with less component wear, combined with reduced horsepower and fuel requirements.9 Painted galvanized exterior panels prevent rust, corrosion, expensive repairs and static electricity build-up associated with steelor plastic designs.10

Tritura processor and natural flow systemOne of the main things that makes a Gleaner Super Series unique is the Natural Flow feeding and threshing. With the rotor setting thewidth of the combine, the crop does not compress or change directions when moving from the feeder house to the rotor. The process begins as grain enters the machine through the 69-inch (1,752 mm) long by 39.5-inch (1,003 mm) wide feeder house thatis powered by an 8 5/8-inch (219 mm) diameter front feed drum. The feeder house can be reversed with the touch of a button from theoperator’s seat in the event of a plug. The feeder house pivots vertically at the first chain, anchoring the rear chain on a fixed angle regardless of header height. The secondchain outpaces the first by 6 percent to prevent bunching. Four-strand undershot feed chains offer 33 percent more chain support thancompetitive three-strand feed chains to help prevent bent feeder slats. In addition to keeping the crop moving in a smooth ribbon from feeding to threshing, the Natural Flow system has an additional featurethat distinguishes it from competitors' designs. Because the rotor is moving in line with the way the crop is fed into the machine, materialis pulled into the rotor rather than being pushed in from the feeding system. This is a significant advantage in ensuring smooth feedingand reducing plugs. Bottlenecks are reduced because a Gleaner does not narrow the crop mat when moving from the feeder house to therotor. The width of crop mat remains the same from the time it enters the feeder house to the time it enters the rotor, also reducing plugsand increasing threshing efficiency.21. Two undershot four-strand feed chains provide high capacity and reliability. (Compression springs maintain feed-chain tension.)2. A cutaway reveals the Super Series time-tested Natural Flow technology. While components have increased in size, the mechanismby which it works has been tested, proven and refined for decades.111

Once in the rotor, separation takes place throughout the full 360 degrees of the rotor cage, meaning better effectiveness withless power. The 30-inch (762 mm) diameter CDF rotor uses six rows of 3/4-inch (18 mm) high-profile bars that are chromed and reversiblein the threshing area. The bars build just enough pressure to release grain that often escapes other rotors, while taking less of atoll between bar and cage on the green-stem material. Three rows of three separator knives break up green material and reducehorsepower requirements.Threshing and seperating1. The 360-degree concave allows crop to separate at any point in the processor. This is different from our competitors, who have partiallyopen concaves that hold crop in the threshing area until the concave opens back up.12. Standard equipment is a newly designed stone trap to reduce the likelihood of rock damage and for fewer stops in extremely rockyconditions. Emptying the stone trap and latching is done in a matter of seconds.233. The CDF rotor is optimized for a variety of crops and conditions. The reversible cylinder bars direct crop in a way that ensures evenand complete threshing.14

Cleaner grainGleaners are renowned for their ability to clean grain and reduce loss on slopes because of the patented accelerator rolls and two-stagecleaning process. The cleaning process begins with distribution augers just underneath the threshing and separating system distributing the material flowinto a smooth and even cascade into the accelerator rolls. Two larger-diameter five-fluted rubber accelerator rolls accelerate grain and chaff downward at four times the speed of free fall. The grain isthen propelled through an evenly distributed air curtain from a larger 13-inch (330 mm) diameter, cab-controlled transverse fan. Dual-stageoutlets provide air for pre-cleaning at the upper duct and final cleaning at the lower duct. The two-stage, high-velocity cleaning provides ahigh-quality clean tank sample, even at the highest harvesting rates. The separated grain lands on a cushion of grain on the louvered grainpan just ahead of the chaffer. The cascade pan has a 6-degree angle to move crop quickly to the pneumatic shoe for greater capacity in higher-moisture crops and ondownhill operation. As lighter chaff blows out the rear, material from the pre-cleaning is processed by the chaffer and sieve.131. Grain exits the clean grain auger inside the S7 grain bin. Improvements to the clean grain and unloading system on the R6 seriespaved the way for the Super Series to increase capacity.2. A high-volume, low-pressure curtain of air provided by the 1,250 rpm transverse-flow fan blows away light chaff as the acceleratedgrain passes through unaffected.3. The secret to a clean grain sample from a Gleaner is the precleaning conducted beneath the accelerator rolls. As a large percentage ofthe material other than grain (MOG) is removed in the precleaning process, the cleaning shoe can work more efficiently and effectively.215

The unique DirectFlow swivel unloader on all Gleaner S7 Series accomplishes the marvel of an average unloading speed of 4 bushelsper second throughout the entire unloading process with a larger 12-inch (305 mm) grain bin cross auger that feeds a massive 14-inch(356 mm) unloader auger. This DirectFlow two-auger design is the basis for our S7 Series unloading system.Because we only use two augers rather than three, like our competition, Gleaner provides more efficient unloading with better grainquality and less wear. No gearboxes. No open drives. No vertical augers. With the transition angle between the grain bin cross auger and swivel auger reduced, it means less horsepower and reduced fuelconsumption to achieve this impressive unloading rate. The unloading auger provides a 15-foot (4.54 m) discharge height and a 23-foot (6.98 m) reach from center. On the S67, with its massive 300-bushel (10,572 L) grain tank, the unloading time is 75 seconds. The S77 unloads its standard330-bushel (11,629 L), the largest Class VII standard bin capacity, in 83 seconds. The optional 390-bushel (13,743 L) grain tank withfoldable bin extension unloads in 98 seconds.Grain handlingClass VII Unloading ComparisonHow much time do you invest to fill ten 1,000-bushel grain trucks?ModelGrain Tank (bu)Average UnloadingRate (bu/sec)Time Per UnloadingCycle (sec)Unloading CyclesGleaner S77 330 (standard) 4.0 83 30 41.5Gleaner S77 390 (optional) 4.0 98 26 42.5JD 9770 STS 300 3.0 100 33 55.0CIH 7120 315 3.2 98 32 52.3NH CR9060 315 3.2 98 32 52.3Total Time Invested(min)18

Residue managementThe standard chaff spreader on the Gleaner Super Series is an integral part of the combine and uses the high volume of air passing belowthe accelerator rolls to blow chaff out the back of the combine. It features an adjustable tailboard and fins to help spread shoe materialinto a wider swath as it leaves the machine. There is no stripping of material and no mechanical drives in the process. The optional hydraulic chaff spreader on all Super Series combines delivers the ultimate in chaff spreading and when used with the hydraulicstraw spreader and redesigned spreader curtain provides an even wider spread of residue for tillage, planting and chemical applications.Straw, corn stalks and stems exit the rotor discharge where non-grain material is handled by either an impeller or chopper. To bale thestraw or stover, simply remove the standard hydraulic spreader and drop the residue into a clean, compact windrow. The newly designedprocessor delivers a higher-quality straw sample for baling.1. The new in-line sixteen knife design provides more even wear at reduced horsepower and more efficient chopping of residue.2. A hydraulic variable-speed straw spreader and redesigned spreader curtain provide up to a 40-foot spread for enhanced residuemanagement. This allows full adjustment of spread pattern to match the header width and current cropping practices.3. For extra-heavy chaff spreading, add the optional hydraulic chaff spreader. Two hydraulically driven impellers promise extrawidedistribution.12319

The Gleaner Super Series is designed to have the fewest number of belts, chains, augers and gear drives possible to reduce the totalnumber of moving parts, points of potential wear or breakage and the number of hours you have to spend on service. The walk-in rear engine compartment is the industry’s largest, and the combine’s overall low center of gravity puts most machine partswithin easy reach from the ground. Easily accessible suction-type hydraulic filters, single reservoir and sight-level tube all work to limitservice time demands without risking hydraulic system integrity.Serviceability11. Because Gleaner Super Series combines use straight-through shafts, changing belts and making adjustments to the machine iseasier and takes less time away from your harvest. The Super Series rotor can be removed in literally a fraction of the time it takesto remove a rotor from our competitors' combines.2. Newly designed lower shields provide easy access to both sides of the machine.3. An optional auto-lubrication system eliminates one more tedious service task.2 3 44. New standard LED night lighting package consists of six lights for header, grain bin, unloader and rear of combine.22
