Thanks to the Staff Interests Group (SIG), more than 200 colleagues and their familiesthoroughly enjoyed a day of fun, fabulous weather and fantastic scenery on the AutumnTour to Tap Mun and Tung Ping Chau held on 15 November.Gathering at Ma Liu Shui, thehappy party embarked on a ferryfor Tap Mun where they visited theisland’s famed attractions, feastedon a sumptuous seafood lunch andthen sailed for Tung Ping Chau.Tung Ping Chau is among theHong Kong Best 10 Scenic Sites,offering fascinating rock formations as well as spectacular views. While kids happilyclambered over the rocks, camera fans were busy taking pictures, hoping their snapswill be among the winners in a photo competition. Results will be announced on5 January.An annual event organised by SIG, this year’s Autumn Tour was the third to beheld and so popular that the original 100 places were snapped up on the first day ofenrolment. 當 日 全 面 培 育Publicity Raises HKBU Profile今 天 成 就 非 凡校 友 成 就 彰 顯 全 人 教 育If you travelled via MTR stations in Kowloon Tong, Tsuen Wan and Mongkokrecently, you could hardly have kept your eyes off giant posters bearingthe images of two of our distinguished alumni: Dr. Royce Yuen, Chairmanof Ogilvy Hong Kong, and Miss Josephine Ng, the popular DJ on CommercialRadio 2. The successes of these outstanding HKBU graduates have beenhighlighted in the university’s latest publicity campaign.The University launched its debut publicity drive in October 2007,featuring its famed whole person education ethos, and this drew a highlyfavourable response. Riding on this successful initiative, the Task Forceon University Publicity, led by Prof. Tsoi Ah-chung, Vice-President (Researchand Institutional Advancement), was set up to oversee this year’s campaign.The new campaign ran from October to early December. The driveheightens the public’s awareness of HKBU as a premier Hong Kong university,one that nurtures future leaders by delivering top-quality whole personeducation, and is an important tool in attracting undergraduates of highpotential.The essence of the whole person education ethos was captured inthematic advertisements and advertorials developed under the slogan“HKBU – My Bright Future”.The ads featured the multiple and diverse achievements of our alumni,starting from HKBU’s early days up to the present day. The advertorialshighlighted six of HKBU’s outstanding areas of achievements. Theseare the University’s success in fostering creativity, in business studies,Chinese medicine and pharmacy, China studies, environmental enhancementand HKBU as a university devoted to the community.To achieve maximum effect in reaching the target audiences of prospectivestudents, their parents and teachers as well as the public, the advertisementsand advertorials appeared not just in newspapers. They also ran on onlineplatforms, including search engines, on-line newspapers, forums andnetworking vehicles such as MSN and Facebook.A campaign website (www.hkbu.edu.hk/myfuture) was developed,packed with useful information on HKBU for JUPAS applicants and includingthe expanded versions of the alumni success stories.The campaign is just a start. He spoke on “The Religious Harmony in theRepublic of Kazakhstan”. Canother beverages replace water?There’s no need to follow strictly the guideline of eight glassesa day. For intake, it all depends on one’s body needs. For example,one needs more water to compensate for fluid loss caused bysweating and outdoor activities. But I have not found any scientific evidence to prove this.Q: Are water filters good for removing impurities from drinking water?There is no doubt that the active carbon in water filters can remove impurities. However, if impuritiesare left in filters for too long, they may release into the water and become a source of pollution.Besides, it is hard to say in general how often we should change the filter cartridges becausetheir life spans vary from brand to brand. If water filters are used, they have to be well-maintainedand the filter cartridges should be changed regularly according to the instructions.Q: Is bottled or tap water safer?I believe tap water is safer because some bottles may have toxic substances which could dissolveinto the water and cause harm to the body.
